STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu (JKHCBAJ) in its General House Meeting on Monday reiterated the demand of restoration of powers of registration to the Judicial Magistrates and decided to continue with the ongoing agitation till its demand is not fulfilled. It is pertinent to mention here that it is more than a month that the court work has been affected due to lawyers indefinite strike call. The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, held its General House meeting under the Chairmanship of Advocate Abhinav Sharma, President, J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu, in which majority of the members including Senior Advocates and others participated. The office bearers of JKHCBAJ namely Rohit Bhagat, Vice President, Abhishek Wazir General Secretary, Pardeep Majotra Joint Secretary and Sushant Samnotra Treasurer and office bearers of Young Lawyers Association namely Nitin Bakshi President, Sarvesh Kotwal, Vice President, Upasna Thakur General Secretary, Suraj Singh Plathia Joint Secretary and Amzi Arthur John Cashier were also present in the meeting. The senior members of the Bar Association namely Leela Karan Sharma Senior Advocate, Ved Raj Wazir Sr. Adv and former President, U.K. Jalali Sr. Adv. former Advocate General, B.S. Slathia Sr. Adv, and former President. K.S. Johal, Sr. Adv. Sunil Sethi Sr. Adv and former President, H.C. Jalmaria Adv, Masood Choudhary Adv, Usman Salaria, M.R. Qureshi Adv, R.S. Jamwal Adv, Ajay Daljeet Singh Manhas Adv. Surjeet Singh Andotra Adv, Monish Chopra Adv, Anil Gupta, Adv. Anil Khajuria Adv, Bhavshya Sudan, Adv. Raj Deep Thakur Adv, while speaking in the meeting expressed their views on the agenda points viz decision of the Government regarding divesting Judicial Magistrate powers of registration of documents and simultaneously conferring the same upon the Revenue Officers and shifting of High Court from Janipur to Raika and the issue of indefinite strike.
The members of the Association while speaking briefed the house about the advantage and disadvantage of the ongoing indefinite agitation which was commenced on November 1, 2019.
Asvocate Abhinav Sharma, President, JKHCBAJ apprised the house about the developments which have taken place during the ongoing strike of the Association. He said that the Government has given its proposal to the Bar during the meeting held few days back for providing accommodation in the P.D.C Building near the Court Complex Janipur Jammu or to some other accommodation near the court complex. He also briefed the house that the Chief Justice, J&K High Court had already apprised the team of the Bar Association and other members who were present in the meeting that there is no decision of shifting of the High Court from Janipur Jammu to Raika. It was also informed to the General House regarding the meeting held with Chief Secretary and the Financial Commissioner (Revenue). The members unanimously decided to continue with the demand of restoration of powers of registration to the Judicial Magistrate and till then continue with the ongoing agitation.
The meeting was also attended by Advocates Ajatshatru Sharma and Rahul Sharma President and General Secretary Kathua Bar Association. The proceedings of the General House were conducted by Advocate Abhishek Wazir,General Secretary JKHCBAJ.
