STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Maths, Urdu and Economics Departments strengthen their positions by winning matches in the ongoing Inter-departmental Cricket Tournament of University of Jammu (JU), organised by Campus Sports Committee, on the campus ground, here on Monday. In the first match, Math Department outplayed Education Department by 43 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, Maths Department set a target of 102 runs in 12 overs. Ranjeet remained top scorer with 32 runs while Mohit made 23 and Sharvan and Akhil contributed 14 and 11 runs respectively. For Education Department, Ankush and Sahil took one wicket each. In reply, Education Department failed to chase the target and managed to scores only 59 runs for the loss of ten wickets and 9.4 overs. Santosh and Ravail were the main scorer with 10 and nine runs respectively. For Maths Department, Raghav and Sahil claimed two wickets each while Rakesh, Ranjeet and Sharvan took one each. In another match, Urdu Department registered 28-run win over Geography Department. Earlier, Urdu Department batting first after winning the toss made 123 runs in 15 overs for the loss of seven wickets. Akhter played a fine innings of 44 runs off 30 balls hitting three sixes while Toheeb and Irfan made 15 and 14 runs respectively. For Geography Department, Keshiv claimed three wickets while Izhar, Mansoor, Vasu and Somraj took one each. Later, Geography Department failed to chased the target and managed to score 95 runs for ten wickets, Akshit was the top scorer with 20 runs followed by Keshav Manhas and Swaran, who added 14 and 10 runs respectively. Umair grabbed three wickets, Akhter and Irfan claimed two and Umar took one wicket for Urdu Department. In last match of the day, Economics Department defeated Bio-Technology Department by eight wickets. Earlier, batting first, Bio-Technology Department made 116 runs losing eight wickets in 15 overs. Aditya Kumar made 23 while Shajat and Ajay Sajid contributed 15 runs each. For Economics Department, Bushan and Sandeep scalped three wickets each while Manish took two. In reply, Economics Department chased the target making 119 runs for the loss of two wickets in 12.5 overs, courtesy brilliant 58-run knock of Farooq, studded with seven boundaries and two sixes. Pankaj made 27 runs. Shajat and Ajay picked one wicket each for Bio-Technology Department. Today’s matches were officiated by Vijay Raina, Tahir Mahmood, Manoj Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Rajkumar Bakshi and Sat Paul.
