JAMMU: The Forest Department sealed an illegal saw mill functioning in Firdosabad, Sunjwan , Jammu in the name and style of M/S R.K Timber owned by Showkat Ali son of Haji Mohd Ali.
A team headed by Range Officer Bahu Ajit Chander was deputed for dismantling illegal saw mill functioning in the name and style of M/S R.K Timber but there was a great resistance from the owner and his supporters. The situation became tense due to influx of supporters of that area. Dr. V.S. Senthil Kumar DFO Jammu and B.M Sharma IFS Conservator of Forest, East Circle, Jammu also reached the spot to handle the situation.
Though some religious leaders also stepped in, yet the situation was very well managed and controlled. The saw mill was functioning at the time of raid and the premises/saw mill were sealed in presence of Conservator of Forest, East Circle, Divisional Forest Officer, Jammu, Duty Magistrate, SDPO Narwal, SHO Triluta Nagar and Incharge Police Post Bathindi
While contacting B M Sharma, Conservator of Forest, East Circle he mentioned that the owner of the saw mill has filed an writ petition titled OWP No:- 145/2013 M/S R.K. Timber V/S State of J&K and others and the High Court had passed an interim direction in the case tilted MP No.159/2013 in OWP No.145/2013, MP No.624/2013 M/s R.K.Timber V/s State of J&K and others that “In the meanwhile, subject to objection from other side till next date of hearing before the bench Interim direction passed in OWP No.1412/2013 MP No.1972/2012 shall be applicable to the instant petition as well.
Meanwhile pleading be completed in all the connected matters. Interim directions, if any, in the connected matters shall continue till next date of hearing”.
The directions passed by the High Court of J&K at Jammu in the case titled OWP No.1412/2012, CMA No.1972/2012 was given as “Till next date before the Bench, status quo in respect of the petitioners establishment (saw Mill) be maintained provided they are established and are functioning in accordance with the rules and do not violate orders passed by Supreme court issued from time to time”.
The Divisional Forest Officer Jammu added that he has directed the all the field staff of Jammu Forest Division to dismantle and seal all the illegal Saw Mills which are functioning without valid license and in gross violation of SRO 103 of 2012 and Orders of the Superme Court of India.
