JAMMU: IGP Traffic, Alok Kumar on Tuesday sought suggestions as well as viable proposals from stakeholders for a robust and strong transport system in the city. While interacting with representatives of Mini Bus Transport Unions during a meeting, Kumar said that the ‘Men in Blue’ are working day and night for bringing a positive change in the system and had been directed to remain firm yet polite with drivers and other road users. He impressed upon the participants to follow basic norms of driving public-service vehicles which included maintaining discipline in mini-buses, sticking to allotted routes, halting only at designated stops, wearing proper uniform, restriction on use of music-systems, keeping doors of vehicle closed while driving besides having proper documents. The IGP asked the concerned officers to hold regular awareness programmes for drivers to inculcate a sense of responsibility and awareness towards duty among them. Representatives of Mini Bus Transport Unions also highlighted a number of issues including lack of adequate parking areas, required infrastructure etc in the city and demanded necessary measures for resolving the same. Assuring that the highlighted issues would be taken up with appropriate authorities, the IGP asked them to come up with all their grievances, suggestions as well as viable proposals for a robust and strong transport system in the city. The representatives were further asked to take necessary measures at their level within a period of seven days failing which legal process to stop traffic violations would be augmented by the Department. The meeting was also attended by the Staff Officer to IGP (Traffic), SSP Traffic (City) and SP Traffic (Rural).
