LEH: Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for granting Union Territory (UT) status for Ladakh, the Himalayan Buddhist Culture Association (HBCA) Leh appealed to Government of India to include Bhoti language in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution and make it official language of Ladakh UT.
In this regard, President HBCA Tashi Targais accompanied by other members addressed media on Thursday at Press Club Leh and reiterated their stand on the demand of inclusion of Bhoti language in the Eight schedule of the constitution. The members further claimed that people of Himalayan regions, from Arunachal to Ladakh, have been demanding Bhoti as a Scheduled language for 28 years.
The Himalayan Buddhist Culture Association also requested the Government of India to open pilgrimage route to Kailash Mansarovar from Demchok in Ladakh as by doing so, there would be a reduction in distance, making it just a daylong journey from Ladakh.
Welcoming granting of UT status and removal of Articles 370 and 35A, HBCA asked Ladakhi leadership that services and sacrifice of every individual who has struggled for the cause over the decades must not be forgotten or overshadowed. HBCA further requested the Prime Minister to declare Ladakh as a scheduled area under Schedule Sixth of the Constitution, so that interests of Ladakhi people are protected with constitutional provisions.
