JAMMU: Responding to the STATE TIMES’ exclusive report ‘Non-availability of Biomarker Test Kits puts COVID-19 patients at high risk in GMC’, published in its October 6 edition, the management of the premier health facility on Friday installed the Biomaker testing machine.Soon after the publication of this report, Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Atal Dulloo had pulled the Government Medical College (GMC) administration for their incompetence in delaying installation of Biomaker testing, putting the lives of corona patients at more risk.
This Biomarker testing machine has been installed in Public Private Partnership (PPE) mode, wherein the SIEMENS Company has installed the machine free of cost with the rider that the kits will be purchased from the same company.Despite tall claims and false statements, the GMC had virtually put the lives of patients in jeopardy in wake of non-availability of Biomarker Testing Kits.In absence of this test, the treating doctors could not judge the Immune Defenses against Novel COVID-19 virus in serious patients. The treatment and medication level can’t be decided, in absence of this Biomarker Test.According to doctors, biomarker tests of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients go a long way in timely diagnosis of impending complications thereby reducing the mortality rate.It is pertinent to mention here that the researchers have identified five immune response biomarkers, which can be used to classify COVID-19 patients will survive the disease. The biomarker is a natural substance in the body that serves as an indicator of a biological state, condition or disease and biomarker testing can reveal whether levels meet or exceed the limits for normal functions and in turn clinicians can use this information to make most appropriate decisions for the patients.Every time the GMC administration denies any discrepancy or shortage of any infrastructure but this time STATE TIMES had also accessed the HoD’s letter so that authorities cannot misguide the public and patients.Deaths of Corona patients in Jammu can be avoided to a large extent as now the doctors can easily ascertain the level of patient care required. The suspected hi-viral load patients can now be shifted to isolation or ventilators rooms well in advance.Besides Dr Nasib Chand Digra, Principal GMC Jammu, Dr A S Bhaita, HoD Biochemistry, Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Administrator Associated Hospital and other doctors were also present during the installation of the facility.
