Finally, the cat has come out of the bag. Mohammad Yousf Shah of Soibug, Budgam, alias Syed Sallahudin, the international terrorist, has ultimately spilled the beans of Hizbul Mujahideen’s terror acts across India and in Kashmir Valley over the past two and half decades. But for 9/11 terror attack on the US Twin Towers, his terror outfit would have intensified its activities in India, as, he himself says, that the American attacks changed the world-view against terrorism. Being projected as an indigenous face of the so-called Azadi movement in Kashmir, Sallahudin, chief of the United Jehad Council (UJC), is actually an evil, who has masterminded several terror acts on Indian soil. He has confessed this publicly in an interview to Pakistan television channel Geo, saying Hizbul Mujahideen is capable of striking India at any time. He claimed that Hizbul Mujahideen has many supporters in India, as it has carried out many operations across the country. This confession has potential of making lakhs of Kashmiris across the country vulnerable and Muslims in general as suspects. Salahuddin has caused a genuine concern among the Indian intelligence and security agencies to scan the Hizbul operatives and moles in the country. Obviously, this will cause a lot of resentment among radical elements and their support base in the India’s pseudo secular polity, especially the likes of Digvijay Singh, Mani Shankar Aiyer, Sita Ram Yachury etc who keep playing Muslim victim card to strengthen their vote bank. The open confession of the global terrorist will make life of Kashmiri youngsters in various professional institutions miserable, as there are elements, who keep exploiting the separatist sentiment by raising anti-India slogans in various campuses. It is intriguing, therefore, that the so-called mainstream leadership in the Kashmir Valley has not reacted to Salahuddin’s bravado. These political outfits, including the ruling PDP, have been the main votaries of engaging all the stakeholders in resolving the so-called Kashmir imbroglio. The Kashmir’s mainstream block is working overtime to accord respectability to separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who derives his strength from across the borders and remains ideologue for the dreaded organisations like United Jehad Council. Indian intelligence officials have long been believing, though without hard evidence, that the Hizbul Mujahideen’s mysterious Amir-e-Jihad (supreme leader of the Jihad) was in fact Geelani himself’. This belief was strengthened by Sallahudin in 2011. In an interview to Valley Media Service on 30th April 2011, carried by some papers, Salahuddin had dismissed reports of floating a political party, saying that Syed Shah Geelani’s political party represented their goals and ideologies. He had extended complete support to Geelani, thereby raising questions over the Hurriyat Hawk’s alleged terror links. Sallahuddin had stated, “We are playing a political role, a diplomatic role from the platform of Hizbul Mujahideen. Presently Tekreek-e-Kashmir run by Geelani presents our aspirations and our objectives… We do not agree to any kind of autonomy, we do not agree to LoC trade at the cost of independence of the occupied state. We stand for complete independence from Indian slavery. So, any political party just like Tekreek-e-Kashmir under the chairmanship of Syed Ali Shah Geelani which stands for these goals and basic principles of talks on Kashmir core issue and complete military evacuation, we support them”. Now that Sallahuddin has revealed his real face, the separatist leadership in Kashmir will have to come out clear on their credentials. They will have either to denounce Salahuddin or admit that they were working at the behest of Pakistan as stooges to destabilise Kashmir, carry on armed Jihad against India and Indian forces and to use terror as means to achieving political objectives. The Hurriyat apologists in India like Yashwant Sinha, Yachury, Sharad Yadav, Mani Shankar Aiyer and the so-called civil society activists too will have to come clear on their links with Hurriyat and separatists. After all, Mani Shankar Aiyer is on record having sought the help of Pakistanis to dethrone the Narendra Modi led government in India. Onus lies on Kashmiri population as well to come out against the terror-linked Hurriyat in order to ensure dignified life of those of the Valley engaged in academics and other avocations in various parts of the country. The Indian Muslims too will have to confront the UJC chief who has cast shadow of suspicion by saying that they had supporters in India as well. Above all, New Delhi will have to take a call on dealing with separatists in the wake of Sallahuddin’s confession.
