STATE TIMES NEWSNEW DELHI: G.C Murmu, who resigned yesterday as Lieutenant Governor of Jammu Kashmir, has been appointed as the country’s new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).Murmu had resigned from his post in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.“By virtue of the power vested in him by clause (1) of Article 148 of the Constitution of India, the President has been pleased to appoint Girish Chandra Murmu to be the Comptroller and Auditor General of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” reads the notification issued by Rajat Kumar Mishra, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Finance Department. The post of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) was expected to fall vacant this week as incumbent Rajiv Mehrishi turns 65.The Comptroller and Auditor General is a constitutional post and cannot be left vacant.
