JAMMU: Four persons were killed and nine others critically injured on Saturday when a vehicle carrying them skidded off the road and rolled down into a 300-feet deep gorge in Doda district, police said.
According to reports, a Tata Sumo (JK06-4986) was on its way from Changa to Khaljugsaar on Gandoh-Khaljugassar road, when the vehicle carrying 13 passengers including driver, reaching Gangal Soti area, the driver reportedly lost control on a sharp curve and fell 200 feet deep gorge.
When contacted ASP Bhadarwah Rajinder Singh said that as soon we came to know about the accident, a police party rushed to the spot and along with locals started rescue operation. All the 13 persons were brought to the road.
“All of them were shifted to the PHC Changa, where doctors declared four of them as brought dead,” ASP added saying that seven seriously injured were shifted to District Hospital Doda.
The deceased have been identified as Usha Devi (30) wife of Sukh Dev resident of Saroo Khal Jugassar, Mubarak Hussain (16) son of Shah Din resident of Alni, Sapna Devi (22) wife of Chaman Lal resident of Sairu Khal Jugassar and Povitra Devi (30) daughter of Amar Chand resident of Kal Jugassar.
The injured have been identified as Ashiq Hussain (29) son of Ali Mohammad resident of Kota Khrangal, Munisha Devi (28) wife of Vinod Kymar resident of Bhatoli, Sher Mohammad (38) son of Mahmadoo Mir resident of Soti, Om Devi (50) wife of Amar Chad resident of Jugassar, Swarn Singh (26) son of Tek Chand resident of Seru Khal Jugassar, Manmohan Singh (30) son of Om Singh resident of Khal Jugassar, Amar Singh (55) son of Jagat Ram resident of Jugassar, Geeta Devi resident of Lajoo Khal Jugassar and Tariq Hussain (29) son of Shah Mohammad resident of Kakoo.
Later, five injured persons were shifted to GMC Jammu for further treatment. It is notable to mention here that the vehicle was carrying 13 passengers on the capacity of 9.
