STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: As part of ongoing intensive outreach campaign to promote the concept of Swachhta Hi Sewa including plastic Mukt Bharat, the Field Outreach Bureau (FOB), Bureau of Outreach & Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Rajouri on Friday organised a day-long awareness programme at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Sunderbani. Vinod Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sunderbani was the Chief Guest who highlighted the importance of Swachhta and urged upon the students and community as a whole for discarding he usage of single use plastic in our daily lives. He stated that the polythene is severely damaging the eco system, flora and fauna in the eco sensitive areas of Rajouri District which is very rich in its natural resources. He highlighted the visible differences in atmosphere of the area due to the pollution and extensive use of polythene. A large number of community members, students, elderly people spoke about the ill-effects of polythene. A number of interactive activities like seminar, expert lectures, quiz, group discussions, magic shows were organised during the programme. Principal of the host School, Deep Raj, who presided over the function, appreciated the efforts of Field Outreach Bureau, Rajouri for organising such awareness programmes for the betterment of the society. He also demanded that such programmes should be organised in every nook and corner of the district so that menace of polythene is curbed. Gurnam Singh, Incharge Field Outreach Bureau, Rajouri, Rajesh Sharma, Incharge Field Outreach Bureau and Satbir Singh also shared their views on the theme of the programme. Netu Sharma, Administrator, One Stop Centre for Women, Rajouri highlighted the importance of such programmes which are being organised in close coordination with various departments and are yielding fruitful results. In order to inculcate the habit of carrying bags made up of cloth/ cotton etc. from our homes for purchasing household items some jute bags were distributed. Dust bins were also distributed among the winning students and community members of the Quiz competition.
