STATE TIMES NEWSBhadarwah: Ten thousand population of 5 Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir’s additional district Bhaderwah are expecting that their life is going to change for the better soon as PMGSY authorities have started laying of macadom on Dradhu-Manwa road.Being black toped at an alloted cost of 717 lakhs, 9.12 km Dradhu-Manwa road will provide all weather connectivity to about 10,000 population of 5 Panchayats including Dradhu, Diggi, Manwa, Sengoi and Misrata of Bhadarwah by the end of this month.Villagers, especially fruit growers of these 5 Panchayats which is also known for producing best quality of apples, pears, walnut and parsimone in Jammu province were waiting since last one decade for the completion of this road finally heaved a sigh of relief as Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) after taking over the project from Roads and Building department in 2018 speeded up the pace of work and after completing the earth work, last week started round the clock macadomisation on 9.12 Km long Dradhu-Manwa road with a target to complete the stretch by the end of October.PMGSY Bhadarwah recently started 2nd phase of work which include Soling, Metling and mecadamization by deploying heavy machineries.Atta Mohd Sheikh, AEE PMGSY Bhadarwah said that the blacktopping of 9.12 km stretch of the Dradhu-Manwa road connecting about 10,000 population of 5 Panchayats has been taken up last week and as of now the work is being carried on war-footing and we are hopeful to complete the 2nd phase with a project cost of 717 lakhs by 31st October.“After completion of the black topping, this road will provide all weather connectivity to 5 Panchayats. This road has the potential of boosting the life standard of the villagers especially that of fruit and vegetable growers which is the main source of livelihood in this area,” AEE added.Villagers especially farmers and fruit growers are upbeat after seeing the work is being carried on a brisk pace and this time are hopeful that the road will be finally completed in stipulated time period.” Now we are hopeful that finally this road will be completed and we will be able to transport our produce especially fruits vegetables in the markets , which on one hand will reduce transportation cost and on the other hand there will be less demage to our produce,” said Riyaz Ahmed, a fruit grower of village Manwa.After lockdown restriction were eased, road construction has been taken up with renewed vigour. The government has, over the last five years, spent more than ?80,000 crore on building and upgrading rural roads across the country, even as the PMGSY funding model has changed.For much of its history, PMGSY operated as a centrally sponsored scheme where the central government provided 100% of funding, with states only responsible for implementation.
