STATE TIMES NEWSSRINAGAR: Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), on Saturday organized Capacity Building Programme (CBP) for police officers on ‘Prevention of Counterfeiting and Smuggling’ at PCR, here.Police Officers from Jammu and Udhampur joined the programme virtually. Manish K Sinha, Inspector General, Crime, Jammu and Kashmir Police gave the special address.Speaking in the programme, Irfan Ahmad, Chairman FICCI J&K State Council said in J&K this year itself the police and other enforcement authorities in the J&K have uncovered and arrested people engaged in illicit trade.The efforts made by them during such unprecedented times, is commendable, he added.“Constant vigilance and consumer awareness will play a key role in combating the growing menace of illicit trade,” said Deep Chand, IPS (Retd.) Advisor, FICCI CASCADE and former Special Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.“Tackling the crimes of smuggling and counterfeiting of goods has been a major concern of nations since decades. J&K forces have always been on toes to capture these wrong doers. We are also planning to develop advancements for better enforcement,” Manish K Sinha said.“Illegal trade not only leads to revenue loss to the government but also leads to unemployment amongst the youth in Jammu and Kashmir, who maybe tempted to join undesirable and illegal activities,” he added.“Smuggled and counterfeited goods industry has taken deep roots in India. It is worth appreciatiing how @Cascadeglobal has been so vigilant in raising awareness about the illicit trade in the country,” Manish said.Firdous Mohammad from Law Firm gave a presentation on practical aspects and procedures of investigation economic offences such as counterfeiting, smuggling and piracy.An Interactive Session on Industry issues and collaborative actions needed with enforcement agencies to counter economic offences was given by industry people who joined the program both physically and virtually Milind Palany, Global Brand Protection Lead – India & South Asia, Johnson & Johnson, Rajesh Sharma, Co Chair, FICCI Jammu & Kashmir State Council and Managing Director, Skipper Overseas Pvt.
