STATE TIMES NEWS KATRA: The Faculty Development Centre (FDC) of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra under the initiative of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching Scheme of MHRD, Government of India is holding a weeklong Faculty Development Programme on ‘Teaching Sciences and Mathematics’. The five days programme which was commenced on January 21, 2019 will provide comprehensive overview to faculty members on broad range of research paradigms and methods. In this programme, faculty members from UP, MP, Punjab and Chhattisgarh besides from Central and State Universities of J&K are actively participating. Dr. A.K Das highlighted role of teachers to deliver the content in such a way that students can visualize the basic concepts of science and mathematics. Dr. Uday Pratap Singh, Coordinator of the event briefed about the programme. While Prof. D. Mukhopadhyay, Coordinator-FDC emphasized on the importance of mathematics in other branches of Science and Engineering. Prof. V.K. Bhat, Dean, Faculty of Sciences briefed the participants that in the present scenario science is inter disciplinary in nature and urged to interchange their ideas during FDP programme. During the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Raghvendra Kumar, Scientist G from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the chief guest of the inaugural function, highlighted the tradition of high quality research in mathematics since Vedic times in India and spoke on the role of good teaching of mathematics to generate highly skilled manpower in the era of artificial intelligence. Samir Vohra, Technical Officer, FDC and Kanchan Gupta, Section Officer, FDC and other committee members of FDC were also present during the inaugural ceremony. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Vivek K. Singh, Co-Coordinator of the event.
