Dear Editor,In these difficult times, where most of us are staying with our families, making sure everyone is safe within the four walls we call home. Some of us are still forced to stay alone and lonely. Not everyone is lucky enough to enjoy the warmth of families, enjoy the food prepared by loved ones, or sit next to siblings and fight over a remote to watch their favorite shows. Some of us are not lucky enough or I would say not worthy enough, to be allowed to stay safe and comfortable with families. I am talking about a few hailing from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It’s almost a year since the internet services were banned in my state of J&K (I still call it a state, habit). Only 2G services are restored as of now. In the world of information technology where the world and India are moving towards 5G, we are still forced to see a buffered video on Youtube. Submitting an assignment takes 10 attempts, out of which 9 times, it’s going to fail. Why have I named this letter ‘Exiled by internet’?Simply because we are staying away from our homes and cannot go back, since there is no stable internet connection to work from our homes. Our companies have allowed WFH, however, we can’t.DoT has extended the norms of work from home for the IT companies till Dec 31, 2020. However, we are stuck here only because the 4G services are not restored in J&K and other internet broadband, internet services providers are next to none. Even the supreme court has ruled against the restoration of 4G internet services in Jammu and Kashmir. In the rest of India, we are frustrated with living within four walls. Not able to get out to malls, pubs, and all. Still, we have a sigh of relief when we are Netflixing and chilling. Now just take the last part of ‘Netflix and Chill’ out from your lives and imagine yourself in our place. How good would you feel? This is the life we are living. Not able to go back home because we cannot work there due to ‘damn slow internet’. It’s not a fundamental right they say our faces.Yes, it’s not, I agree but then you don’t have a right to say that you have done something for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.Let, me tell you, “You have done nothing, and you will never do anything for us”. Our state is nothing more than a Cash cow for you or I would say ‘A large vote bank, for the political parties where people of Jammu are fooled on the name of Hinduism and those in Kashmir are fooled on the name of Islam’ and no one talks about the basic rights, education, employment, development of people.Amrik Jasrotia,Jammu.
