Dear Editor, The roads in Jammu and Kashmir have not been developed proportionally, leading to regular traffic snarls in the city. After Darbar move, Jammu city is witnessing traffic congestion problems particularly in the morning and evening hours. Growing traffic in Jammu city is directly linked with growing number of accidents and fatalities which is a cause of concern for everyone and need to be fixed as soon as possible. Fast and negligent driving by mini bus drivers is the main reason for accidents and such fatal incidents. One can easily notice this from Parade to Rajpura route and Talab Tillo camp to Jewel route. These mini buses overtake each other for their own vested interests and this has become their daily routine as there is no check on this. This creates havoc among commuters and sometimes results into fatal accidents of innocent people. Overloading and rash driving can be observed everywhere and has become grave cause of concern. I do not understand why Traffic Department is not taking any action against these. Traffic police is only busy in generating revenue by harassing common man and Challaning poor people. I have noticed many times that traffic cops overlook mini buses and are least bothered about the way they are driving. Through your esteemed daily, I would like to request the concerned especially to Traffic Cops to work to manage traffic on roads and keep a check on mini buses. D.P Singh (Raju), Jammu.
