STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: A Division Bench (DB) of the State High Court comprising First Puisne Judge, Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Sindhu Sharma on Wednesday directed Jammu Development Authority (JDA) to file the latest status report regarding any encroachment in the corridors of JDA Shopping Complex at City Chowk, Jammu. The court direction came in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Jagdish Chander Gupta to highlight the encroachments by the shopkeepers and other unknown persons in the JDA Shopping Complex, Mohalla Old Hospital Road, Near City Chowk, Jammu and also in the area adjoining the same. Advocate Ajay Sharma appeared for the PIL whereas Advocate Sachin Gupta for the JMC and Advocate Adarsh Sharma for the JDA. In the PIL it has been submitted that due to encroachments by the shopkeepers in one of the oldest/busiest commercial areas of Jammu it has become very difficult for the pedestrians to walk on the road. “Numerous representations and complaints were made by the petitioner since 1993. But these failed to evoke any response by the District Administration/ JDA/ JMC and finally the petitioner has decided to take up this issue vigorously by approaching this Court so that a time bound action may be initiated in the matter”, the PIL submitted.
