STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Acting on report of STATE TIMES regarding a child-labour incident in the Government Girls Middle School, Gorkha Nagar, wherein students were spotted carrying a LPG cylinder to school, the District Education and Planning Officer, Swarn Singh constituted a committee to investigate the matter and instructed the ZEO, Shashi Parbha to look into the matter besides taking strict action against guilty.
STATE TIMES, in its report, had raised questions as to how students were allowed to go out of school and carry a LPG cylinder to the premises. The incident, captured in a video-clip, showed four girl students carrying heavy LPG cylinder to the school premises and no one was there for their help. It is a matter of concern that how a teacher can allow minor girl students to go out of school and carry a LPG cylinder.
Child labour has been banned across the country and no one can make children work like labourers. Acting swiftly on the report, the School Education Department has initiated investigation into the matter. The District Education and Planning Officer, Swarn Singh said that such incidents will not be tolerated at any cost and strenuous action would be taken against guilty. Asking Government Girls Middle School Gorkha Nagar and others to hire labourers for such works, Singh directed that no student should be sent outside the premises of school for any type of work.
