STATE TIMES NEWS AKHNOOR: In wake of labour shortage due to COVID-19 Pandemic, Director Agriculture Jammu Inder Jeet, started mechanized sowing of paddy by Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) Technique at Khour Salarian, Ramghar. Those present on the occasion include SMS (RL), Vijay Kumar Koushal, CAO Samba, Sanjay Verma, DAO Samba, Satish Sharma, SDAO Samba, Tilak Raj, Agriculture Engineeer, Brij Rana, AEO Ramghar, Ajeet Singh, AEAs and other field functionaries. BDC Chairman, Ramghar, Darshan Singh, Sarpanches, Panches and prominent farmers were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture said that DSR technique is the best possible solution to the current paddy labour shortage as it involves direct sowing of paddy seed using Direct Paddy Seeder (DSR) machine which is highly labour and cost effective and reduces water requirement up to 40% as well. He further added that department is working tirelessly to ensure the availability of DSR machines, Paddy Seed Drummers, laser Land Levelers and Paddy Transplanters etc to facilitate the farmers in sowing of paddy in present circumstances. It was informed that 15 numbers of DSR drills have been actually provided to the farmers of Samba district on subsidy till date. Later Director Agriculture along with Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), Anil Kumar Nargotra conducted inspection of Seed Multiplication Farm, Chakrohi to monitor the functioning and ongoing operations/activities at the farm.
