JAMMU: Police on Thursday arrested one Selection Grade Constable among two drug peddlers and recovered 50 Kg poppy straw from their possession.
According to report, police party during a Naka at Murgi Chowk, Gangyal intercepted one Alto car bearing registration No JK02AD-0209 coming from Narwal towards Kunjwani Chowk.
During checking, police recovered 50 Kg poppy straw from their possession.
The duo were identified as Fareed Bakash, Selection Grade Constable (SgCT) of IRP 18th Bn E ‘Coy’ Jammu and Ghulam Ahmed Sofi, son of Walli Mohammad Sofi, resident of Gundchal, Anantnag.
In this regard, case FIR No 58/18 under Sections 8 and 15 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Gangyal and further investigation of the case is going on.
“The accused disclosed that they had brought the consignment from Srinagar for selling the same among the youth in Jammu. More recoveries are expected as there is every possibility of involvement of more persons,” a police spokesperson said.
The arrest and recovery was made by SI Nayat Ali, SHO Gangyal and SI Vicky Thapa, In-charge Police Post Greater Kailash under the supervision of SDPO City South, Jammu, Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and SP City South, Jammu.
