The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is a liberal, ideological and cultural organization. The organization has branches in many countries of the world where a person is being transformed into a personality. The social and cultural contribution of the organization is incredible. Be it a time of economic calamity or an emergency, a state of war with neighbouring countries or a natural disaster, Covid19 pandemic or an earthquake, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has steadfastly performed its duties. It is not that all people of the country are supporters of RSS. There are also a large number of opponents who keep spreading rumours against the Sangh. RSS has tried to touch every dimension of people. The country is very proud of this organization. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was founded on 27th September 1950 by Dr. Keshav Hedgewar on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami. This organization was started by a few dozen people but is the largest social cultural organization in the world because of its cultural programmes, patriotism and service. Crores of people are associated with this organization. RSS is actively working in more than 50 nations. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is one of the highest respected cultural organization of the world. This organization extends to the villages through the center, region, province, department, district, taluka, block, division. Bhartiya Kisan Sangh is working for the overall development of farmers. Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh is the largest trade union of the country and it is working for the welfare of labourers.Seva Bharti is a wonderful project of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which is providing education to the tribals and forest dwellers. Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is the world’s largest student organization based on the slogan of Gyan, Sheel, Ekta. Swadeshi Jagran Manch is working to promote indigenous industry, indigenous products and Indian culture. Saraswati Shishu Mandir is promoting Indian culture with Indian system of education to young students. Under Vidya Bharati more than 25,000 schools and colleges are there to help the society. In Vidya Bharati, 45 million students are studying and more than one lakh teachers are teaching. Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram is working for the all-round development of crores of forest dwellers. Vishwa Hindu Parishad is there for Sanatan Dharma with motto of Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah.RSS has been banned three times in history. RSS was first banned after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, which was lifted after 18 months by the then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. During the Emergency-the Sangh was banned from 1975 to 1977 which was withdrawn by the government after 2 years. RSS was banned for the third time on December 6, 1992 due to the demolition of the Babri Masjid which was again lifted by the government within 6 months. The question is why did the governments lift the ban from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh after banning it thrice? The Sangh has always been devoutly dedicated to protecting the motherland, protecting Sanatan Dharma and serving the people of the country. This is why governments had to lift the ban. Truth can be humiliated but can not be defeated. The role of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been remarkable in the development of India before and after independence. In 1947, the volunteers meticulously monitored the activities of the Pakistani Army along the Kashmir border and helped the Indian government. Volunteers sacrificed their lives for the protection of Mother land.In 1954, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh played an important role in bringing Dadra Nagar Haveli to independence from the Portuguese. The Rashtriya Sevak Sangh also played an important role in the liberation of Goa in 1961. During 1962 when China attacked India, the volunteers volunteered to play an important role in the Indian Army in monitoring the soldiers of the enemy country. The then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru proudly invited Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at the Republic Day parade ceremony. During the Indo-Pakistan war in 1965, Lal Bahadur Shastri had sought help from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to maintain internal law & order in the country.Be it the Orissa cyclone of 1971 or the Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984, the 1984 Sikh riots or the Gujarat earthquake of 2001, the 2004 tsunami that hit coastal areas of South India or the 2013 natural calamity of Uttarakhand, the RSS was always the first to help the people. The philosophy of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh can be understood very easily.Hindutva is not the name of a religion. It has nothing to do with Hinduism. It’s not religious word. Hindutva is a way of life and State of mind. The word ‘Hindu’ is not a word derived from any religious scripture. Hindu word is derived from river Sindhu. Those who live in beyond the river Sindhu are called Hindus. The concept of religion dates back to a few thousand years. There should be no objection to being called a Hindu. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has never discriminated anyone on the basis of caste or religion. The efforts of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Article 370, Uniform Civil Code, Refugee Law and Ram Janmabhoomi movement are commendable. Some RSS volunteers have become the Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers and Governors of many states of India on the strength of education and culture of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Today it is necessary that contribution and efforts of RSS should be recognised. All must takeinspiration from this holy organization.
