STATE TIMES NEWS KATRA: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region and MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh has accused Congress and its allies of deliberately holding back important national and central projects in Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha Constituency represented by him. Continuing with a series of Mandal (Block) level meetings with BJP Karyakartas as well as Sarpanchs and Panches in different Assembly segments, Dr Jitendra Singh was on Wednesday interacting with the BJP office bearers and prominent workers from different Mandals of district Reasi. Dr Jitendra Singh said, BJP will go to the people and raise the question why important and game-changing national projects like Shahpur-Kandi were held back for 40 years. So many governments represented by Congress and its allies came and went, but the project was not moved forward, he alleged. It was only after the intervention of the Modi Government that the project was revived, but even though the Punjab Government was ready to go ahead, the State Government was still reluctant and the project was approved only after the imposition of the Governor’s rule. Similarly, Dr Jitendra Singh asked, why river Devika rejuvenation project in Udhampur was not taken up by the earlier governments and was started only after Modi Govt came in or why Radio Station in Udhampur had to start only now, even though the demand was first made during the 1965 war. In erstwhile district Doda also, Dr Jitendra Singh said, a network of roads is underway, degree colleges in remote Kastigarh, Kendriya Vidyalayas in remote Jodhpur and Gandoh, first ever Post office at Gandoh. “Not only this, three important tunnels of Chhatergala, Khilani-Sudhmahadev and Kaljugar. Why could all this not happen in last 65 years? He asked. Referring to Katra Vaishno Devi as a holy city from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched his election campaign in 2014, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Railway Station of Katra Vaishno Devi was also delayed for months together by the then UPA Government and it was only after Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister that it was inaugurated and dedicated to public.
Not only this, Dr Jitendra Singh alleged, the work on railway track to Kashmir via Reasi was held-up for motivated considerations. It was only when the issue was taken up with the Modi Government that the Union Railway Minister personally visited here and the work on railway track was resumed on which today, the world’s highest railway bridge is under construction.
While record number of four Degree colleges were approved for district Reasi in a short period of time, Dr Jitendra Singh said, Rs. 45 crore of Central Funding was done to construct new hostel complex in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University Campus, at the same time, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas were also approved. This, he said, will pave the way for new education hub.
As a part of Swachh Bharat campaign, Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is a matter of pride that Katra has been selected among the 100 icon stations to be developed as model destinations.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the highest ever package of Central Road Funds and PMGSY Road Funds were allocated for District Reasi during the last five years, whereas prior to 2014, even the main road from Katra to Reasi was in a shambles and the work had been held up indefinitely. Today, he said, virtually every road project is progressing at different stages of construction and the new projects are in the pipeline.
A war memorial to commemorate the 1965 war, showcasing “Vijayanta Tank”, has already been established in Reasi, said Dr Jitendra Singh and added that in the next five years, the venue of Maharaja Pratap Singh’s birth place in Reasi will be sought to be developed as a tourist attraction by incorporating archaeological structure including a sound and light show.
Former Minister Ajay Nanda, former MLA Baldev Sharma, BJP District President Kuldeep Dubey, Chairman Reasi Municipal Committee Suresh Puri, Chairman Katra Municipal Committee Shashi Gupta and Vice Chairman Katra Municipal Committee Ajay Baru also spoke on the occasion.
