State Times NewsJAMMU: Jammu, once known as the ‘City of Temples’ has been turned into ‘City of Toll Plazas’ during the regime of same political party (BJP), which was once against the toll plaza in Samba and had destroyed the same during rule of Congress Government in the erstwhile State of J&K. The same party is now shamelessly implementing the same against the wishes and aspirations of people. It was stated by Social activist, D S Ranotra in a press statement issued here on Sunday.Ranotra further said that Jammu was already receiving very less tourism footfall but the installation of Sarore toll plaza, Ban toll plaza, Nashri toll plaza and recently gifted Lakhanpur toll plaza etc would cast more burden on tourism and other essential services. “Installation of toll plaza at Sarore is wrong. Huge charges are being recovered in ‘Mafia style’ from gullible masses but the condition of road is miserable, as it has not been not properly maintained,” he added.Condemning biased attitude of BJP, Ranotra said, “BJP is adopting a biased attitude as only one toll plaza is situated in valley at Lower Munda. Why there is not another toll plaza in entire valley? It means BJP is either afraid of Kashmiris or providing them leverage for sake of vote bank. The party, in Jammu, is playing sentiment and Hinduism cards with people for vote bank besides burdening people by installing one toll after another.”Referring to news regarding proposed toll plaza in Akhnoor, Ranotra said that as per reports, Akhnoor will also be gifted a toll plaza very soon, thereby increasing the burden on already suffering people of Jammu. “I want to ask BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina, who always says ‘Toll Plaza Puti Sutna’ that why he is sitting idle and doing nothing in the matter? One can easily understand that after land mafia, now a toll mafia is active in Jammu, with full support of BJP,” he added.Demanding immediate removal of Sarore Toll Plaza, Ranotra asked the Government not to install another toll in city of Jammu, failing which the BJP will have to face consequences in coming elections.
