STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: A meeting of Channi Himmat Residents Association (CHRA) was held under the chairmanship of its President Advocate V K Grover on Thursday wherein situation arising in the colony due to pathetic, silent, negligent and evasive attitude of administration regarding COVID-19 outbreak was discussed as a number of residents are falling prey to this drastic situation and getting caught by coronavirus, both in symptomatic or asymptomatic way.During the meeting, various factors responsible for the situation were discussed and it was observed that many people including migrant labourers residing in and around the colony roam here and there without any fear of administration. Though, there is legal sanction and mandate of punishment prescribed for violation of COVID-19 SOPs, inaction on part of administration against defaulters is making them fearless. One can find many such persons using colony parks for consuming liquor and smoking including drugs etc. thereby contaminating an otherwise clean and serene environment, the members said.“The administration needs to be more alert and vigilant in present pandemic where Jammu hospitals are already falling short of beds, ventilators and even oxygen. One finds himself in a very awkward situation when long queues are seen in front of two wine shops in the colony causing traffic jams, throwing social distancing and mask wearing to winds, particularly during evening hours,” they added. The issue regarding rash and triple riding on two-wheelers, by labour class living in the colony, on un-numbered vehicles, was also discussed in detail as the menace is causing a lot of avoidable accidents, but there is no check by the authorities. The association appealed to the higher authorities in the administration to act promptly and strictly against defaulters for welfare of residents of Channi Himmat colony.
