STATE TIMES NEWSAKHNOOR: Youth of forward villages of Akhnoor Tehsil including Gegrial, Hamirpur & Jourian hailed the commendable efforts of the army in improving their lives by empowering them. One such programme brought out by the locals is the Youth Employment Guidance Node (YEGN) Proj which predominantly prepare the youth of the border areas for their employment into the Armed Forces through systematic training at regular intervals. Large numbers of motivated youth enrolled in the YEGN and were put through a structured six weeks physical training capsule and also prepared for written exam. These endeavors assisted 33 candidates to get selected in the army, while 32 youths cleared physical test for BSF.Locals said that the Army prepared young students for entrance exams for RIMC and Sainik Schools. With concerted efforts and guidance from teachers and army instructors, eight children have cleared the written exams for Sainik School. Women also came out to appreciate the army’s initiatives of computer education for them in Border Areas. They said, post their training a certificate was given to the girls students in consistent with Rashtriya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.As per locals, the army has also organized a number of medical & awareness camps and distributed essentials as Masks, Sanitizer’s & disinfectants to needy persons in a bid to reduce the deleterious effect of lockdown caused by the COVID Pandemic. Nine locals in this area also have gained their eyesight back after getting treated in an eye camp organised by the army.
