STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: As a part of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh’s (BMS) nation-wide programme to meet Members of Parliament for apprising them about anti-labour policies being perused by the Central Government, desisting from adopting ordinance route for enhancing duty-hours to 12 hours per day besides highlighting a number of other issues related with labourers, a deputation of (BMS) led by State President Subash Verma along with Ashok Choudhary General Secretary, Harbans Choudhary, Chuni Lal and Ravi Kumar called on Member Parliament Shamsher Singh Manhas here on Friday. During the meeting, the deputation highlighted a number of demands and issues related to labourers and urged MP for initiating necessary measures to resolve the same. It was also brought into the notice of MP that big factories in Jammu province are engaging workers from open market, on daily cash payment basis, without knowing any where-about of workers or entering into any regular contracts to save ESIC and PFs. “This is also resulting into rapid increase in COVID-19 positive cases, as a number of outside workers have been engaged by the unit holders, without enquiring their details. Moreover, district administration is not taking any preventive step in this regard. The ESIC Hospital, which was purely meant for industrial workers, has been taken over by the administration for treating COVID positive patients, without making any alternative arrangement for industrial workers,” the members added. The MP was also informed about ongoing open loot in PF Offices Jammu and Samba, due to which workers were suffering a lot. Members urged the MP to depute senior PF Inspectors to Kathua and Rajouri as Officer Incharge for welfare of workers. The MP gave them a patient hearing and assured that he would take up the highlighted issues at appropriate forums.
