JAMMU: Chess Prodigy Arushi Kotwal has been conferred with State Award for the year 2016 for her excellent performance at State, national and international levels.Arushi Kotwal, basically belongs to Chinta, a remote area of Tehsil Bhaderwah, District Doda, is the youngest player of State to get the Sher-e-Kashmir Sports award for the year 2011-12 at the age of seven years and eight months when the award was announced in January 2012.The award carries Rs 51,000 cash prize, gold medal worth Rs 1.25 lakh and a memento. Arushi got the State Award for the year 2016.Arushi Kotwal is the first and only one titled chess player from Jammu & Kashmir who have been awarded WCM Title by World Chess Federation for winning silver medal in Western Asian Chess Championship-2018 at Taskent, Uzbekistan.Besides this WCM, Arushi Kotwal is the only J&K chess player who has won medals in all three formats of Chess game (Viz: Standard, Rapid & Blitz).Arushi Kotwal won two gold medals in 7th Asian School Chess Championship-2011 in under-7 category (One Individual and one Team); gold medal (Rapid) in 8th Asian School Chess Championship-2012 under-9 category; gold medal in South Asian Amateur Chess Championship-2016 under-13 category; silver medal in 6th National Amateur Chess Championship-2017 in Senior Category; silver medal in National School Chess Championship-2018 under-17 category; three silver medals and one bronze medal (One Silver in individual event, two Silver and one Bronze Medal as a team) in 13th Asian School Chess Championship-2018 held at Sri Lanka in July 2018; silver medal in 3rd Western Asian Youth Chess Championship-2018 (U-14) held at Taskent, in Nov.2018 and also won WCM title which was awarded by World Chess Federation (FIDE).She also won bronze medal (Blitz) in 4th Western Asian Youth Chess Championship-2019 under-16 category and more than 15 gold medals and more than 20 silver medals at State level besides various bronze medals.WCM Arushi Kotwal has so far represented Jammu and Kashmir in more than 25 national chess championships and more than 12 international chess championships which include World Youth Chess Championship-2019 and World Junior Chess Championship-2019.
