STATE TIMES NEWS DODA: “Holding BDC elections without 73rd amendment to Panchayati Raj Act 1989 is a cruel joke with democracy”, said Kuldeep Kumar Rao President Thathri Development Front in a meeting of the organization held at Thathri. He said that successive State Governments in the past reduced the Panchayati Raj Act as a toy in the hands of several political leaders who made amendments after amendments to this Act to suit their interests without taking real concept of decentralization of power in the hands of public representatives in a democratic manner as envisioned by the father of Nation – Mahatma Gandhi In the absence of this amendment, holding of election this election is simply an exercise either to please the bosses, or to create a history for the name sake to earn back thumping victory in elections or to manage release of central funds to be plundered like past political dispensations with nothing visible on the ground, he said. He also said that conducting election without amendment is a clear signal to give benefit to only to political parties. Rao has appealed to the Sarpanchs and Panchs of J&K to elect only the honest and the competent men/women at all costs in BDC elections for real development of remote areas and reject all Political Party’s contesting candidates for BDC elections.
