Dear EditorLet me first thank STATE TIMES for having become the only paper in J&K often taking up issues of greater public interest in an unbiased manner. STATE TIMES by carrying the story “J&K UT Domicile Rules still do not accommodate non-PR spouse of a PRC holder daughter” by Sr Journalist Daya Sagar in its 10th September issue can do large benefit if taken notice by Lt. Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha since the suggestions, if applied, will benefit both the commoner and the government machinery. It is hoped that the LG will surely do the needed good for the people of J&K in general and women folk in particular.Women in J&K are still being discriminated as regards to their rights and privileges even after 5th August 2019. Example has come to fore where the children of a woman PRC holder born and brought up in Jammu have been denied the Domicile Certificate even when the PRC of mother had been submitted with the online application. It raises question when rules simply say that Domicile Certificate of child of PRC Holder shall be issued on the basis of PRC of Parent of Child and also birth certificate of the child. The BJP had raised the issue of discrimination in women rights in erstwhile J&K State by the Political Governments of the past in almost every election Rally in past elections held before and after 5th August 2019. These tall claims of doing away with these discriminatory policies of the then governments after the scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A still appear as dreams to come true for the women who are still being discriminated by the guards of Executive of J&K UT. It is not out of place to mention that the Government of India should take a cue as regards J&K also from the Law prevailing in US where every child who is born on the land of US is given Citizen Rights of that country irrespective of the citizenship of the parents.Er.
