STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Akash Choudhary’s fifer helped Waaris Cricket Club to enter the final of Diwali Cricket Cup. In the first semifinal played at Railway Ground here on Saturday, Waaris Cricket Club trounced Gorkha Cricket Club by huge margin of 93-runs. Gorkha Cricket Club after winning the toss opted to field first. Waaris Club, batting first, scored 132 runs with the loss of nine wickets. Ankush played a fine inning of 44 runs while Gourav also played well and made valuable 36 runs. For Gorkha Club, Anchal claimed four wickets while Ashu took two. The Gorkha Club failed to build partnerships in the game and lost wickets on regular intervals. Gorkha Club team suffered a shattering start as they suffered five quick wickets. Akash Choudhary and Abhinav brought Waaris Club on the front seat as they kept taking wickets in quick succession. Gorkha Club was bundled out for just 39 runs. Ashu and Hanaan were the only batsmen who touched double figure marks with 15 and 11 runs respectively. Akash was on fire as he concluded his bowling spell with five wickets while Abhinav bagged two wickets. For his five-wicket haul, Akash Choudhary was declared as Man of the Match. In the second semifinal, Wave Cricket Club outplayed Buddy Cricket Club. Batting first after winning the toss, Buddy Club scored 99 runs in 20 overs. Arwind was the top scorer with 23 runs while Royal made 11. For Wave Club, Brijesh scalped three wickets and Vikas took two. Wave Club, in reply, chased the target in 15.3 overs, courtesy quick fire inning of Yawar, who scored 32 runs off just 12 balls. Gourav Khajuria also played well and contributed 30 runs to the total. For his best bowling performance, Brijesh was adjudged as Man of the Match. Today’s matches were officiated by Balbir Singh (Coach of Trikuta Cricket Academy).
