JAMMU: Incensed by the BJP’s skullduggery over AIIMS and ‘Smart City’ projects, Chairman JKNPP and Former Education Minister Harsh Dev Singh unveiled the treacherous and perfidious character of the Saffron Party by making a sensational expose’ on the vexed issues, in a press conference here on Saturday.
Reminiscing the BJP’s obnoxious surrender of AIIMS to Kashmir which was actually sanctioned for Jammu region, Harsh said that the Saffron party back stabbed the people of Jammu region with a sole motive to grab the power which had led to a massive ongoing civil movement for its restoration in the region.
Singh disclosed that undeterred by the BJP’s repressive efforts to quell the voice of the people, Panthers Party had filed an RTI application dated 23rd June, 2015 seeking a copy of the order issued for the establishment of newly sanctioned AIIMS during 2015-16 from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, towards which the concerned office provided an information on 26th August, 2015 replying that only one AIIMS has been sanctioned for J&K State along with other states.
Infuriated further by the outright denial of even a single Smart City to J&K under the Central government’s Rs. 96000 crore Pan- India 100 ‘Smart Cities’ project by the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Development, Harsh pointed out that out of 36 States and Union Territories, J&K alone was excluded from the mega project. He said that Jammu city had a superior claim for the Smart City and fulfilled the criteria, as against Srinagar in view of higher population of district Jammu and around 70% share in the total revenue generation in the State comes from Jammu by way of VAT, sales tax, excise duty, motor vehicle tax, toll tax, stamp duty, entry tax and power tariff.
Moreover, 66 per cent of power revenue in the entire State is realized by Jammu region against the power consumption of only 40% as compared to Kashmir, Singh said.
He was skeptical that the lame duck posturing of the BJP, its criminal neglect and acquiescing tendency in the ruling alliance had jeopardized the selection of Jammu under the Pan- India project and feared that BJP had deliberately excluded J&K from the purview of the mega project with a political motive to divest Jammu of its Smart City project merely for power. Singh said that the BJP has been persistently drum beating about their developmental agenda all across the country but despite having governments both at the Centre and in the State, the Saffron brigade has miserably succumbed and failed to deliver AIIMS in Jammu Division besides a Smart City to Jammu city in its much hyped dream project envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He maintained that the BJP was continuing to honeymoon with their ministerial berths in the ruling coalition by betraying the mandate and aspirations of the people of Jammu region.
He further revealed that Panthers party leaders along with hundreds of activists shall be leaving for New Delhi today to hold the protest demonstrations outside the Parliament and the residence of Union Ministers on the issue of Smart City on Monday.
