JAMMU: The Accession Day of J&K was celebrated with patriotic zeal and fervor across Jammu region on Monday. A number of social and political organisations held a number of programmes at various places to commemorate the day. Pertinent to mention here that Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Ruler of princely State of J&K, signed Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947.Jammu Province People’s Forum (JPPF) celebrated Accession Day of J&K with dominion of India by organising a function near Maharaja Hari Singh’s statue, Tawi Bridge in Jammu, as well as in Udhampur, Kathua and Samba.Pavitar Singh (Retd Judge) while talking to media persons told that rhetoric criticism of Jammu & Kashmir accession with India by Kashmir leaders necessitated need of celebration of accession, and we are proud to proclaim JPPF’s initiative, started in 2010, is widely celebrated today not in J&K only but outside also. He also expressed gratitude towards the Government for granting holiday on the occasion, thereby facilitating public to join celebrations comfortably. “We have also felt that people who are projecting accession of J&K with dominion of India a disputed issue needs to introspect themselves and study their own past,” he said, adding, “We are of the opinion if these people go back and study their family history for last 3- 4 generations, most of them will come to know about the truth.” The Accession Day celebrations were held at Samba under leadership of Devender Singh Slathia, at Kathua under Dr Madhusudan and Udhampur under Resham Singh, Balwan Singh.Others present on the occasion included M S Katoch, Inderjeet Khajuria, K B Jandial, Daya Sagar, Uday Chand, Ved Prakash, Narinder Kumar, Resham Singh Jamwal, Avinash Bhatia, Balwan Singh, Prof O P Sharma, Col. S S Pathania, Rajinder Gupta, P C Sharma, R L Tandon, Rajinder Singh, Ram Ratan Sharma, Madan Lal Abrol, Ram Singh Slathia, Surinder Vir, Kamla Sharma, Sunita Sharma, Rajiv Mahajan, Prabha Slathia, Madhu Sharma, B L Baru, Charanjeet Kumar, Jyoti Sharma, B S Bhatia, B K Sahni, Pritam Sharma, Kernel Chand, Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, Ajit Singh Adyal, Amit Sharma, Ajay Singh Jamwal, Kuldeep Katoch, Govinder Singh Dalpatia, Rajdev Singh (Sarpanch Bhalwal) and Abhimanyu Katoch.The Jammu Central Mahajan Sabha also organised a colourful function at Mahajan Bhawan to celebrate Accession of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State (now Union Territory) with dominion of India, a secular social sovereign republic. Romesh Chander Gupta, President of Sabha lauded Maharaja Hari Singh, the last Ruler of the J&K State for signing the Instrument of Accession. He also praised positive role played by Lala Mehar Chand Mahajan in getting the needful done quickly at appropriate time. Gupta further requested the Central Government to get back area of J&K illegally occupied by Pakistan and China. Jugal Mahajan, Senior Patron of Sabha said, “We are fortunate that J&K acceded to India and should always faithful to central Government.” The speakers also criticised Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of J&K for anti-national assertion disregarding Nation Flag.Others who participated in the function included Shiv Partap Gupta, Om Parkash Mahajan (Kaku Shah), Om Parkash Gupta, Arun Gupta, Ram Langer, C P Gupta, Dr Mohan Lal Gupta, Sham Langar, Ram Saroop, Mukesh Mahajan, Balbir Gupta, Romesh Chander Gupta (Bartan Wale), Satish Chander Gupta, Vijay Gupta, Darshan Gupta and Ravi Rohmetra.Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha J&K celebrated ‘Vilay Diwas’ (Accession Day) with great enthusiasm at Raj Tilak Bhawan, Purani Mandi Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Narayan Singh, President Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha J&K said that It is for the first time in the history of India and Jammu & Kashmir Union Territory that Shri Amar Kshatriya (Rajput) Sabha J&K is celebrating Accession Day, after Abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A. The participants appreciated the wisdom of Late Maharaja Hari Singh, who signed ‘Instrument of Accession of J&K State’ with Union of India, despite hectic pressure. Referring to sacrifice of Brig Rajinder Singh, he said, “A conspiracy was hatched by Pakistan and other agencies to capture J&K but State forces of Maharaja gave a tough fight and repulsed Pak attack on all fronts. Pakistan invaders could not cross Uri due to tough fight given by Brig Rajinder Singh. J&K people still owe to Brigadier Singh, who is also known as ‘Saviour of J&K’.” A blood donation camp was also organised by Sabha, wherein a number of people actively participated and donated blood.Mangleshwar Singh Slathia (Youth Chairman Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha) was also present on the occasion. Later, mementos were presented to Dr Meena Sidhu, HOD Blood and Transfusion Medicine GMC Jammu, Dr Dara Singh, Superintendent GMC JAMMU, Dr Rehana Deputy Medical Superintendent GMC JAMMU, Dr Bharat Bhushan, Asstt Medical Superintendent GMC Jammu and Dr Ruby, Medical Officer, Blood Bank GMC Jammu.
Public Opinion Forum (POF), a non-profit social organisation also held a simple but impressive function held to celebrate the day. A number of POF members led by their President Tureen Kumar Sharma offered floral tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh for his historical decision to accede J&K with Indian Union by signing the Instrument of Accession. All members of the Forum remembered the Maharaja for his development-oriented and secular rule prior to accession. It is pertinent to mention here that Public Opinion Forum has been celebrating Accession Day annually from last several years and used to offer a mammoth Ladoo on the occasion, but this year the same was cancelled due to COVID-19.Speaking on the occasion, Parveen Kumar Sharma congratulated people on the Accession Day and thanked UT government for declaring holiday on the occasion.Others who spoke on the occasion included Gopal Parthasarthy, Prof Virender Gupta, Dr Sat Dev Sharma, K B Jandial, C L Gupta, Dhian Singh, Rahul Sharma, Nitin Vaid, Sumit Khajuria, Suraj Sharma, Gaurav Kapoor, Devinder Singh Jamwal, Tarsem Gupta, Lalit Kumar, Ravinder Jamwal, Sumant Singh Jamwal, Rajinder Bhardwaj, Ajay Chanda, Kapil Sharma and Tarvinder Singh.Bhartiya Shiksha Samiti Jammu Kashmir organized the programme in it all schools the celebrate the Accession Day. The main programme was held at Amphalla, the head office of the society in which Pradeep Kumar, Sanghthan Mantri highlighted the main aim of celebration of Accession Day. The programme was presided over by Ved Bhushan Sharma President of the society all the working committee members were present on the occasion.
Pradeep Kumar said that this day is the important day in the history of J&K as on this day the then Maharaja Hari Singh signed the instrument of accession under Indian Independence Day ACT of 1946 in 26th October 1947 and J&K become the part India.On this occasion the great sacrifice of Colonel Ranjit Roy , Brigadier Rajinder Singh & Major Somnath Sharma were remembered and floral tributes where paid to them as savours of Jammu and Kashmir.
