STATE TIMES NEWS KARGIL: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday booked the Superintending Engineer, PWD (R&B) Kargil and others on corruption charges. On outcome of preliminary enquiry conducted by the ACB, based on allegations that Bodh Raj Bhagat, Executive Engineer, PWD Kargil / Zanskar in league with Des Raj Bhagat, Deputy Secretary PWD (R&B) has siphoned-off more than Rs 2 crore of Government’s money on account of construction of Pidmo Bridge, Chumogumpa Sani Road, Phutktal Road and concrete abutments, it was surfaced that numerous procedural violations were made in allocation of works executed by the Executive Engineer and Superintendent Engineer, PWD Kargil. Besides, many illegal extensions had been given by the aforesaid engineers on their own, without getting proper sanction from the competent authorities. The preliminary enquiry further revealed that a loss to the tune of Rs 15,97,284 has been caused to the State exchequer on account of exorbitance of rates of work against untendered work of construction of one number pier and strengthening of two numbers of abutments of 1X75 Mtrs span, steel Girder Bridge over river Zanskar at Pidmo. Thus, the allegations, which surfaced prima facie, disclosed commission of offences under section (1) (d), punishable under section 5(2) of PC Act Svt 2006 on part of SE PWD (R&B) Kargil and others. Consequently, a case vide FIR no 13/19 is registered in Police Station ACB Kashmir and investigation has been taken up.
