Abrogation of Article 370 is seen as fulfilment of the urges and aspirations of the nationalistic forces, who wanted complete integration of Jammu & Kashmir withrest of India. The people, especially those in Jammu see a ray of hope in ending continuous discrimination, perpetrated by the Kashmir-centric rulers.
Sachin Kohli, MD Mother’s Shadow: Abrogation of Article 370 is indeed a welcome step of the Central Government, as the founding fathers have framed ‘one constitution, one citizenship’ for the people of nation and keeping trust on them Jammu & Kashmir is and will always remain the integral part of India. With the removal of Article 370, many laws, which were earlier implemented only after the consent of the State Legislature, now come into force with immediate effect. Now, minorities (Hindus and Sikhs) will have 16 per cent reservation now, Right to Information and Right to Education is applicable in J&K now, Article 35A is nullified as a result of which a woman resident of J&K can still retain her rights and citizenship even if she marries out of J&K Union Territory and Panchayats will enjoy the same powers as in other states of the country. Finally, it is ‘One Nation One Constitution’ and it will instill the feeling of unity among all the citizens of India and J&K.This historic decision will open doors for the private sector to invest in J&K, which would further boost the economy of the erstwhile State. Now apart from tourism, there will be scope of more job opportunities for unemployed youths of the UT. The Centre will be able to provide better medical facilities to citizens of J&K and appropriate measures to control corruption can now be taken by the Central Government.Authorities at the helm are in a better position to curb terrorism. So now, when we look at the whole scenario, this decision seems to lead the life of people to betterment. All this can be done only if the government from now on takes more better and precautionary steps towards betterment of people across UT.
Sambhav Bhargav, Law Student, JU: On 5th August, 2019, the Government of India revoked the special status, granted under Article 370 of Indian Constitution to erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir State.Article 370 was titled as temporary provision related to the erstwhile State. It was clearly meant to be a temporary provision to cater specific requirements of troubled times, immediately after India’s independence and J&K’s accession to India. It was meant to remain in operation during the existence of the State’s Constituent Assembly. As time passed, the vested interests within J&K Union Territory and the compulsions of various political parties outside UT, to appease their vote-banks ensured its retention. The people of J&K always wanted a change in positive direction and the same has been provided with abrogation of Article 370.Now, the Central Government can implement the uniform policies and as a direct effect of this, the security situation in J&K has improved manifold and is now, in fact, better than ever. With that note, this is vivid that the world could now hope to see a prosperous and peaceful J&K, the so-called heaven on earth.
Ashok Kumar, Senior Citizen: August, 05 2019 will be written as red letter day for the wondrous, public-oriented and historical decision taken by the Union Government, and Indian Parliament abrogating Article 370 and 35 A, which were temporary provisions in the Constitution. It is not only in the interest of people of Jammu, Ladakh or Kashmir but the whole country. In my opinion before the law came into force, the erstwhile state of J&K was like a flower without fragrance and most of the people, especially those representing egalitarian sections of the society, were feeling dejected and deprived of their legitimate rights, affiliation, participation in the election and other administrative business. So many potentially felt problems of thousands of depressed and genuine people like West Pak refugees, Gorkhas, Valmikis Samaj, those who last their families during 1947 riots families and female state subjects married outside the state were being deprived of right to property. After the implementation of the law a large number of issues are being addressed in a big way. However, the Union Government must expedite the overall socio-economic development scenario in J&K Union Territory including one of the issues pertaining to honourable settlement of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley, protection of temples and property of the migrants in Kashmir Valley etc. Abrogation of Article 370 has side by side paved a way to tighten the nose over law breakers and others enjoying undue liberty, peace, tranquillity and national security. The forces are checking vigorously smuggling of weapons, Hawala transactions from across the border, staining for zero tolerance on infiltration without any laxity to those taking guns in their hands etc. No doubt some political leaders from the Kashmir valley, having lost their ground, have been exposed in the public for misleading youth and masses because they intend to implement a hidden agenda farmed on the other side disturbing the prevailing peaceful atmosphere with inflammatory speeches and using social media for the purpose.
