STATE TIMES NEWSSrinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 17 more COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, taking their number to 1,181, while 975 new cases pushed the infection tally in the Union territory to 75,070, officials said.Eleven of the fresh fatalities were reported from Jammu and six from the Valley, they added.There are 17,017 active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVD-19) in the UT, while 56,872 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.“The UT recorded 975 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours — with 568 in Jammu and 407 in the Kashmir valley,” an official said.
JAMMU Out of a total of 638 prisoners, as many as 55 have been found infected with Coronavirus in a Rapid Antigen Test on Wednesday at Jammu’s district jail at Amphalla even as most of the jail inmates are reportedly asymptomatic.Director General Prisons VK Singh confirmed to STATE TIMES that 55 inmates and 2 officials had been found positive of Covid-19 in an extensive screening of the prisoners and the staff on Wednesday at District Jail Amphalla. He claimed that most of the Covid-positive inmates were asymptomatic and they were being quarantined as per the protocol within the jail premises. As regards the symptomatic jail inmates, Singh said that the District Magistrate of Jammu had immediately designated one premises at Ban Talab as a part of the District Jail. He said that all the symptomatic prisoners were being shifted from Amphalla to Ban Talab for necessary medical supervision and treatment.The 638 inmates at Amphalla include a number of Kashmiri militants, convicts and social criminals besides two Chinese Muslims who had escaped from Xinjiang province, entered the Indian territory across LAC in Ladakh and sought political asylum from the Government of India. A decision on their fate was reportedly awaited from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the Union Ministry of External Affairs.Previously, in the beginning of the pandemic, a large number of prisoners had tested positive with Covid-19 at the District Jail in Anantnag. However, with the passage of the time, they had recovered and ultimately tested negative.
Jammu district reported the highest number of 353 new cases, followed by 173 in Srinagar district, the officials said.According to the daily Media Bulletin, out of 75,070 positive cases, 17,017 are Active Positive, 56872 have recovered and 1,181 have died; 342 in Jammu division and 839 in Kashmir division.The Bulletin further said that out of 16,22,775 test results available, 15,47,705 samples have been tested as negative till September 30, 2020.Till date 5,76,398 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 15,423 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 17,017 in isolation and 50,575 under home surveillance. Besides, 4,92,202 persons have completed their surveillance period.Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Srinagar has 14,882 positive cases (including 173 cases reported today) with 2096 Active Positive, 12,494 recovered (including 209 cases recovered today), 292 deaths; Baramulla has 4,388 positive cases (including 53 cases reported today) with 1316 Active Positive, 2,948 recovered (including 17 cases recovered today), 124 deaths; Pulwama reported 3,942 positive cases (including 33 cases reported today) with 427 active positive cases, 3447 recovered (including 39 cases recovered today), 68 deaths; Kulgam has 2,266 positive cases (including 06 cases reported today) with 111 Active Positive, 2,112 recoveries (including 13 cases recovered today), 43 deaths; Shopian has 2,027 positive cases (including 2 cases reported today) with 177 Active Positive, 1,818 recovered (including 18 cases reported today), 32 deaths; Anantnag district has 3,519 positive cases (including 16 cases reported today) with 433 Active Positive, 3,021 recovered (including 12 cases recovered today), 65 deaths; Budgam has 4,871 positive cases (including 48 cases reported today) with 922 Active Positive and 3,867 recovered (including 93 cases recovered today), 82 deaths; Kupwara has 3,613 positive cases (including 38 cases reported today) with 735 Active Positive, 2,811 recovered (including 119 cases recovered today), 67 deaths; Bandipora has 3,400 positive cases (including 15 cases reported today) with 493 Active Positive, 2,870 recovered, 37 deaths and Ganderbal has 2,891 positive cases (including 23 cases reported today) with 365 active positive cases, 2,497 recoveries (including 45 cases recovered today) and 29 deaths.Similarly, Jammu has 13015 positive cases (including 353 cases reported today) with 3,374 active positive cases, 9,457 recoveries (including 560 cases recovered today), 184 deaths; Rajouri has 2,653 positive cases (including 27 cases reported today) with 1,333 active positive cases, 1288 recovered, 32 deaths; Ramban has 1,335 positive cases (including 12 cases reported today) with 457 active positive, 868 recoveries (including 10 cases recovered today), 10 deaths; Kathua has 2,063 positive cases (including 12 cases reported today) with 488 Active positive, 1,553 recovered (including 49 cases recovered today), 22 deaths; Udhampur has 2,253 positive cases (including 41 cases reported today) with 529 active positive cases, 1,706 recovered (including 02 cases recovered today), 18 deaths; Samba has 1,762 positive cases (including 24 cases reported today) with 793 Active Positive, 949 recoveries (including 41 cases reported today), 20 deaths; Doda has 2,211 positive cases (including 18 cases reported today) with 1,071 active positive cases, 1,112 recoveries (including 56 cases recovered today), 28 deaths; Poonch has 1,774 positive cases (including 27 cases reported today) with 942 active positive, 817 recoveries (including 18 cases reported today), 15 deaths; Reasi has 964 positive cases (including 19 cases reported today) with 399 active positive, 559 recoveries (including 13 cases recovered today) and 06 deaths while Kishtwar has 1241 positive cases (including 35 cases reported today) with 556 active positive cases and 678 recoveries (including 41 cases reported today) and 7 deaths.According to the bulletin, of the total 75,070 positive cases in J&K 8,789 have been reported as travelers while 66,281 as others.
