STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police has topped the list of Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) with total 81 medals, followed by 51 medals that have gone to the CRPF this Independence Day.Ahead of the Independence Day, the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday announced the list of gallantry medal awardees to police personnel across the country.The awards include Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG), President’s Police Medal (PPM) and Police Medal (PM) for meritorious services.Ninety four Jammu and Kashmir police officers and Jawans have been honoured with these medals.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India honoured Head constable Abdul Rashid Kalas with Kirti Chakra (Posthumously) and DIG Amit Kumar with Shaurya Chakra.Director General of police, Dilbag Singh congratulated Jammu and Kashmir Police officers and personnel who have been awarded different medals.He expressed his happiness and pleasure on this feat of officers and personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.“Untiring and relentless efforts of the officers and jawans of J&K police have been recognized,” the DGP said adding that recognition will go in a long way to boost the morale of men and officers of police force. Among the 94 awardees, 12 have been awarded with President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Services, one officer has been awarded with President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 81 officers and jawans have been awarded with Police Medal for Gallantry.Those who have been awarded with President’s Police medal for Meritorious Services are SSsP Randeep Kumar (CID m Jammu), Tahir Saleem, Romesh Chander Kotwal, Manoj Kumar Pandit, Inspectors, Vikram Sharma (Anti Corruption Bureau), Manjeet Singh, Shashi Kumar, SIs Ghulam Ahmad, Gulzar Hussain Khan, ASI Suran Singh, HC Rukhsana Kosar, Sgct. Milap Chand.Aijaz Rasool Ganie has been awarded with President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.Besides, 81 officers and jawans including DIG, Atul Kumar Goel and DIG V. Mohan Chand Sharma has got 6th bar for PMG, which means it’s his 7th gallantry medal.Officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs, familiar with the medals’ selection process, said the majority of gallantry medals going to the J&K Police and the CRPF is because of the counter-insurgency operations.
