A 28-year-old person was today killed when an avalanche struck the peripheral area of the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, police said.
Bashir Ahmad Bakshi, a resident of Tangmarg, got trapped in the avalanche in the snow-bound Aferwath this afternoon, they said.
Rescue parties swung into action immediately after the avalanche struck the area and managed to recover Bakshi’s body, who was working as a skiing guide.
Police said though there was no report of any one going missing after the avalanche, rescue operation is going on as a precautionary measure.
Gulmarg, 55 kms from here, is the star attraction for tourists especially skiers from abroad and experienced a fresh spell of snowfall on Sunday.
