POONCH: Communication and Capacity Development Unit under Water and Sanitation Support Organisation, Deptt. of PHE Irrigation and Flood Control in collaboration with Central Water Commission, Central Ground Water Board and National Development Foundation NDF organised a one day workshop on water management at Govt. Degree College Mendhar in District Poonch.
Ramesh Kumar, SDM Mendhar was Chief Guest whereas the programme was presided by Prof. Shabir Shah, Principal GDC Mendhar. Dr. Narinder Bhatial Executive Director CCDU was Guest of Honour on the occasion. The technical session were addressed by Ankush Sharma from Central Water Commission, Sarwan Singh XEn PHE Poonch and Rajiv Khajuria Chief Functionary NDF Jammu.
Dr. Narinder Bhatial in his address laid stress on the IEC component of National Rural Drinking Water Programme and made people aware about the importance of water management and effects of contaminated water on human health. He appealed people to make Mendhar in particular and Poonch in general as open defecation free zones.
Prof. Shabir Shah Principal Govt. Degree College Mendhar sensitized the audience with reference to Islam and said that true follower of religion can never pollute water and defecate in open.
SDM Mendhar Ramesh Kumar in his address informed that he is from a district in Rajasthan where people actually face the brunt of water scarcity and appealed people to conserve water resources in district Poonch which is God’s priceless gift to them. He directed the Rural Development and PHE Deptt. to take the message at gross root level to make people aware on ground about the importance of water and sanitation.
Shoket Choudhary President Panchayat Association also spoke on the occasion. Prominent among other present on the occasion include Sarpanches, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, members of village water and sanitation committees and Govt. officers.
