STATE TIMES NEWSJammu: Work on much awaited 750-bedded All India Institute of Medical Sciences, being constructed along Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in Vijaypur Tehsil of Samba district, will begin in less than a month as the tenders for undertaking different projects of the institute have been floated. Official sources said that the project design has been approved while the work is going to begin within a month as it could not take off due to ongoing Monsoon season. “The paper work has almost been completed while the Union Health Ministry has given nod to the project design,” official sources said, adding that the tenders have already been floated for various works to be taken up under this mega project. “The upcoming AIIMS will be 750-bedded, divided equally into general units and super specialty units,” sources said, adding that the project is likely to be completed in 2023. “The work of boundary wall at the land allotted for AIIMS is almost complete,” they added. Sources said that on the North of the hospital, Emergency Block, Blood Bank and other important units will be set up while on its South, quarters for faculty and other staff besides bio-medical waste plant, water plant and other requirements will be fulfilled.
To be constructed on nearly 100 acres (1954 kanals, 6 marlas), the Departments of Forest, Estates, Custodians and local wings have cleared the land for AIIMS construction, they added.
They said that the hospital will also have surgery, medicine, dermatology, pediatrics units in general department while in super-specialty, it will have Cardiology, Neuro Surgery, Neurology, Endocrinology, Nephrology units besides many Intensive Care Units in each department.
“A school upto higher secondary will also be set up in the second phase for the children of faculty within the premises,” sources said, adding that the local students will also be admitted in the school.
“The work was suspended due to rains but will soon begin in coming days,” said an official adding that in 2020, there is a plan to start admission with a batch of 50 aspirants if all goes well.
