JAMMU: A woman was crushed to death by the State Road Transport Corporation bus in the winter capital of the State and six school students got injured in a separate incident in Ramban district.
“A woman identified as Neelam Lata Bhat, 50, an employee of PHE Department this morning was crushed to death when she was hit by a bus near KC Chowk while she was crossing the road,” police here said.
They said that she was rushed to the hospital but declared as brought dead.
“The woman had a fall while crossing the road and the bus coming from Jewel side, overran her thus leaving her in a pool of blood,” said an eyewitness.
The bus driver escaped from the spot but was arrested later, police said. He was identified as Gurmeet Singh.
A case under Sections 279 and 304 of RPC has been registered vide FIR No. 76 of 2017.
Irked over the death of a colleague, the officials of PHE Department blocked the traffic in front of PHE Office BC Road and raised slogans against the government.
Six school kids injured in Ramban
Meanwhile, in another incident, at least six school students and the driver of the van in which they were travelling got injured in head on collision with a car on Jammu-Srinagar highway in Batote area of Ramban district.
“The car was coming from Srinagar,” police here said. They said that the school students sustained minor injuries while the van driver suffered fracture in his leg.
“Kids were discharged after treatment but the van driver was hospitalised,” police said.
“We have arrested the car driver and registered a case,” police added.
