No word is more misunderstood than the word ‘love’. There is such dubious content beneath its allure; yet, it takes only a tiny fraction of true love to lift our emotions to something vast. Love has many gradations; in essence, it has great power. If the totality of love were to descend on earth i’m sure that we would all explode! Humanity is not ready for it. Society exists on scraps squandered for its own selfish ends. It is up to the individual to prepare the ground for the future. The decision to undertake the Yoga of Love depends not only on our calling but also the tendencies of our nature.
When the heart is pure and aspiring, it feels love. However, the complexity of man’s nature needs harmonising for love to saturate his being. So many parts barricade against this force. Living in the heart rather than the head certainly helps. The heart is channel and transmitter and whenever it touches our soul, love automatically dawns. Love appears, bringing drops of bliss to saturate our being. We give love and receive ananda and realise that both are the twin pillars of existence. However we fear these states more than any other.
For love to settle, we align it to the truth.
If love is not grounded in the truth, we walk a perilous path indeed. Truth is the soil from which love grows. Both are inseparable. Everything is one: Love is Truth and Truth is Love. Ultimately if we want to love truly, we have to live truly and vice versa.
Armed with truth, we come to realise the love that we aspire for. Knowledge intervenes and enriches our love. We open increasingly to the true vibration of love. The love we yearn for is not ephemeral. Neither is it physical gratification. There is no trade because love is unconditional. It is free of all attachment. We understand that attachment is merely an extension of ego. Indeed, the defining feature of all human love is attachment. Whenever it appropriates, it subsides to attachment. The ego must be shed for one to open up fully to the radiance of love.
We rise above ourselves to reach this summit of love. Something new has to lift us up and without surrender, it is impossible. Love is a higher level of consciousness, so our being needs to be divinised, too. We don’t look for immediate returns. We aspire only to fulfil our divine potential: it is our calling. This is the final destination, maybe lifetimes ahead, but there is no other means.
We develop an atmosphere of love and carry it with us at all times. The vibration is so contagious. We are love and love is the source of all existence. We do this not for appreciation but because we are expressing our deepest truth.
Our consciousness reflects love. Its level is a measure of our purity. With love there are no half-measures: either we stay with the pack or give ourselves entirely to it. The Mother says, “To become conscious of Divine Love, all other love must be abandoned.” What a startling statement! Once we realise this, we understand the true meaning of love. But, love cannot be expressed in words: our consciousness must become vast to receive the experience. It is the only way.
