Over 50 deaths under mysterious circumstances of people from varied segments of life, the much notorious Madhya Pradesh Board of Technical Education or the Vyapam scam makes one of the biggest scam India has faced. The coming of the scam within one year of BJP rule in the Centre and in Madhya Pradesh has belittled the 2G scam of Congress ruled period. What is intriguing is the number of deaths that have taken place in this scam which no other scam has claimed. More than 2,000 people have been arrested with over 880 absconding thus showing the involvement of influential in the multi-layer scam including recruitment for government jobs. The scam is under Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe which has not been able to make any headway for the simple reason that the local police is not likely to act against their own bosses. Vyapam till date has conducted exams for technical education comprising over 76 lakh students. Even the present Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan was categorical in saying not to link all the deaths with Vyapam. He was Medical Education Minister from 2008 to 2012 where many appeared for medical entrance exams and many were promoted in the health sector. Even these are also under scanner. It is turning out to be a more sinister a scam than of 2 G or Coalgate of Congress era thus undermining Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of ensuring corruption-free governance. His silence and both Union and state government’s inaction cannot be allowed to continue. It looks most of the BJP icons who led the party’s election campaign and got the party an absolute majority to form a government in the Centre like Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and now Shivraj Singh Chauhan are caught in one or the other scam and Modi’s silence is reflection of his compulsion which will help his detractors a chance to unite ahead of Bihar elections.
