HYDERABAD: Skipper Virat Singh 96-run starred in Jharkhand’s 97-run win over Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, its second win in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Group ‘D’ League at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, here.The victory enabled Jharkhand on fifth place with eight points.The 96 runs off 97 balls with the help of eleven boundaries helped Jharkhand to post a mammoth 296 for nine in 50 overs.After losing first wicket of Md Nazim Siddiqui (6) at 34, the skipper Virat gave the necessary thrust to the Jharkhand innings. Batting steadily and confidently, Virat ensured that Jharkhand had a decent total to defend.Jharkhand lost second wicket of Utkarsh Singh (31 off 31, 5×4) 63 runs in 9.4 overs followed by third Saurabh Tiwary (26 off 38, 2×4) at 126 and fourth wicket of Sumit Kumar (35 off 41, 3×4, 1×6) at 194 runs in 33.6 overs.Kumar Deobrat scored (28 off 25, 2×4, 1×6) while Shahbaz Nadeem made (29 off 36, 2×4) and Rahul Shukla remained unbeaten at 24 off 12 smashing two boundaries and two sixes. Anukul Roy with (1), Vikash ( 2) and Ashish Kumar (not out 5) were the other contributed.For Jammu and Kashmir, Umar Nazir and skipper Parvez Rasool claimed three wickets each while Abhishek Bhat and Deepak Dogra grabbed one wicket each.In reply, Jammu and Kashmir team failed to chase the target and was bundled out at 199 runs in 45.6 overs.J&K top batsmen gave their wicket in close interval and reduced to 79 in 18.5 overs.Shubham Singh Pundir played a sensible game and scored 74off 74 hitiing eight boundaries and one six.Ahmad Omar Banday (14 off 18, 3×4), Shubham Khajuria (20 off 31, 4×4), Ishtiyaq Ahmed Elahi (10 off 14, 2×4), Ian Chauhan (18 off 23, 3×4), Parvez Rasool (13 off 18, 1×4), Fazil Rashid (17 off 36, 1×4), Puneet Kumar (12 off 18, 1×4) helped J&K to reach at 199. Abhishek Bhat and Deepak Dogra went back to pavilion without opening their accounts.For Jharkhand, Vikash and Ashish Kumar picked three wickets each while Anukul Roy took two and Rahul Shukla and Shahbaz Nadeem shared apiece each.
