STATE TIMES NEWS AKHNOOR: The JAK Rifles Officers Organisation (AJRO) held their annual meet at the Brig Usman Officers Institute. This Day is also a special Day as the Birth Anniversary of the Former Chief of Staff of the J&K State forces, Brig Rajinder Singh, MVC ‘Saviour of Kashmir’ falls on this Day. It was a galore of veterans with the ‘youngest old man’ Dogra Ratan Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, former MLC leading them. Brig KK Lakhanpal, the second generation warrior of the force, gallant warrior turned journalist and defence analyst Col Dr Virendra K Sahi, Cols Karan Singh, Rajinder Singh were prominent among the veterans. The event was hosted by Brig Chopra, the Dy GOC of Tiger Division and the senior most serving JAK RIF officer present and meticulously organised by Col Pavinder and 15 JAK Rif. A galaxy of ladies also joined the regimental family Get Together. A short power point presentation was shown on the regimental events. Gen Jamwal kept the members engrossed with old time history and landmark events of the regiment in the past century from pre-independence era onwards e.g. he was telling them that he used to go to his college, Prince of Wales now Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College, on a cycle just in front of the gate of the Usman Club opposite the Topi Bungalow then occupied by Maj Gen HL Scott Chief of Staff of the J&K State Forces. This road was Jammu Sialkot road on which only a few vehicles plied. He also told them that the JAK Rif officers are the inheritors of a great legacy of Maharaja Gulab Singh, Gen Zorawar Singh, Basti Ram, Gen Mohd Khan and Ghansara Singh, Governor of Gilgit who were trained in the J&K Training School next to the Usman Club now the Station Canteen. Such is the heritage of the great Regiment and the Jammu Cantonment which is now being looked after by Gen Sharad Kapoor GOC 26 DIV and the Jammu Chapter of INTACH to bringing it on the world Heritage map. The event was a great success and recorded as landmark event.
