STATE TIMES NEWSKATRA: Commemorating Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary, Regional Outreach Bureau, Jammu, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, organised a five day multimedia exhibition at Government Higher Secondary School Katra showcasing Ganhiji life, struggle and philosophy. The five day exhibition starting today upto 6th 0ctober will display the life, struggles and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi through digital displays and interactive inter phases to engage public including students at large. Various aspects of Gandhian philosophy like Ahimsa, Satya, Swadeshi, Sarva Dharma Samantva etc. are being displayed in the exhibition. The exhibition was inaugurated by PRO Defence Udhampur, Lt. Colonel Abhinav Navneet in presence of Deputy Director, Regional Outreach Bureau, Jammu, Neha Jalali. The Deputy Director ROB, Jammu, Neha Jalali briefed about various activities taking place on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at various parts of the country. The inaugural ceremony also included cultural programmes involving cultural troupes from various states like Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur and West Bengal performing Kalbailiya Nritya, Deepak Nritya, Parat Nritya and Raasa Nritya. Meanwhile, Students and the staff of Government Degree College Katra celebrated Gandhi Jayanti as Swachta Divas in the premises of the campus i.e. at Panchyat Ghar Dadoora. In this connection a symposia was organized on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Present day World” followed by a Campus Cleanliness Drive. Dr. Chander Mohan, in-charge Principal of the college was the Chief Guest on this occasion whereas Dr. Sunil Tanoch, Assistant Prof Sociology presided over the function. Sunekha Sharma, Manesha, Prianka Jamwal, Manisha Devi, Meena Sharma, Nazma, SheenamSuhana, Vishal Bhardwaj, Mannatmenghi and Pooja of Semester-I also expressed their views on this occasion. Priyanka Jamwal, Meena Sharma and Vishal Bhardwaj secured first, second and third prizes respectively. SheenamSuhana got a consolation prize. Harpal Singh, Dr. Sunil Tanoch and Meenakshi adjudged the performance of the students. Harpal Singh, Somalya Dogra, Bhushan Kumar, Meenakshi, Sinduja Gupta were also present on this occasion. Somalya, conducted the proceedings of the programme. The programme concluded with formal vote of thanks by Bhushan Kumar.
KATHUA: As a part of its annual activities calendar, Nav Aharsh Hr. Sec. School, Kathua organised an Inter-House Hindi One Act Play competition in order to mark the Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Prof. Ram Murti Sharma (Retd.), renowned educationist was the Chief Guest for the event. The Mystical Nimbles clinched the 1st position, Marvellous Minds stood 2nd while 3rd spot was shared by Brain Toddlers and The Intellectualists. The performances were judged by Randhir Katal, a renowned theatre artist and T R Sumbria, famous Hindi poet. G.S Katal, Director Nav Adarsh was also present. Congress workers under the leadership of senior congress leader & Former Member legislative council Subash Gupta paid their rich tributes to the duo leaders of the nation by offering flowers to their photos. Medical College Kathua celebrated 150th Birth anniversary of Mahtma Gandhi at Associated Hospital Kathua where in faculty/ doctors, officers/ officials and other paramedical staff attended the sanitation campaign in the premises of the hospital. Various activities were carried out during the programme which includes dusting, cleaning and awareness regarding usage ,dumping of plastic waste in a proper dustbins. Dr. Suleman Chaudhary Principal Govt .Medical College Kathua apprised the faculty members and other clinical / non- clinical staff that they should maintain the hygiene of the Hospital and around the Hospital premises and particularly emphasize that the waste materials should be properly disposed in the proper dustbins. Rural Development Department in collaboration with the District Administration today organized a series of programmes to mark the 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Mahatama Gandhi. Floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi at DC Office Complex and a Yoga Camp was also organized at the auditorium of GDC under Fit India campaign. A plastic waste collection drive was launched at Mukherjee Chowk led by the Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer in which other District and Sectoral officers along with representatives of Kathua Urban Local body also participated and collected plastic waste which was later shifted to an identified location for recycling. Similar programmes were also organized at different Panchayats under ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign and national pledge was also administered among participants besides a film on the life of Mahatma Gandhi was also screened to mark the day.
JAKH: Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Ex. Prime Minister Lal Bahadhur Sastri was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the premises of GGHSS Jakh. Floral tributes were paid to both the ever greatest leaders of India. The speech was delivered by the Vice-Principal Vandana Gupta, lect. Sudershan Sharma and Gulshan Sharma.

BILLAWAR: To commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, GDC Billawar, organised Swachta Abhiyan, Ban on single use plastic and Plogging Run as an initiative to spread cleanliness awareness. Under the supervision of Dr. Jugal Kishore Sharma Principal GDC Billawar, faculty members and students participated in the plugging run and collected litter and waste plastic materials lying along road to Billawar under Swatcha Abhiyan.
R.S PURA: NSS Unit of Government Degree College R.S. Pura in collaboration with NCC Girls and Boyswings of the college celebrated 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in the college campus. Proceedings of the programmewere initiated by Muskan and Sarabjeet Kour (NSS volunteers) followed by lighting of the traditional lamp and floral tribute to the Gandhiji. Sudha and Mansi of Semester V spoke about non- violence, teachings and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. JUO Savita Rani of 2 J&K Girls Bn. Jammu presented a beautiful poem on Gandhi’s contribution in India’s Freedom struggle. Dr. Rajinder Singh, Associate Professor in Chemistry also threw some light on the teachings of Gandhi. BISHNAH: Govt Degree College Bishnah organized an awareness rally as part on the theme “Say no to single- use plastic a step towards a clean and green India” as part of fit India Movement on the 150th Birth anniversary father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.The rally started from GDC Bishnah went through the whole of the Bishnah market and culminated at GDC Bishnah. The Principal of the college Dr Kulvinder Kour paid homage to the father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. HIRANAGAR: GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organised various functions on the eve of the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The programme started with run for fitness rally to Hiranagar Morh in which around 100 students participated. The rally was flagged off by the Principal of the college Prof. Daya Vilas Khajuria, who in his address, stressed the students to use the fast depleting natural resources Judiciously. The Program Officer of NSS Unit of the college Prof. Rakesh Sharma and ANO NCC Prof. Karam Chand also Participated in the rally along with their units. THANNAMANDI: On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi ‘Fit India Plogging Run’ was organised under “Fit India Movement” from Govt. Degree College Thannamandi to Boys Higher Secondary School Thannamandi covering a distance of 2km. The rally was flagged off by SDM Thannamandi, Tanveer Ahmed Khan and Principal of the college, Dr. Javaid Ahmed Qazi. Tehsildar Thannamandi, faculty of the college, faculty of different schools of subdivision Thannamandi, Tehsil administration and students of different Institutions also participated in the run.

The event was conducted with an aim towards developing sense of hygiene and sanitation in the remote areas of Kishtwar. Large number of people participated in the cleanliness Drive. The drive was also undertaken to educate the students, youth and locals to accomplish the vision of a clean and serene Nation. The Army organised Swachh Bharat Abhiyan at Thatri, Patnazi, Shergwari and Kishtwar on the occasion of ‘Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti’. The event was conducted with an aim towards developing sense of hygiene and sanitation in the remote areas of Doda and Kishtwar. The event was to educate students, youth and locals to accomplish the vision of a clean and serene Nation. The drive was structured on the national theme of “Swachh Bharat”.
POONCH: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti Army joined hands with the local population and students of various locations. The event were organised with multifarious functions at Mastandhara, Sangiot, DKG, Kotli, Govt Model School, Palam and Govt middle school Sulidhara in Poonch and Rajouri. The day is celebrated to honour the birthday of the father of the nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapuji. It is also celebrated as International Day of Non-Violence since Gandhiji was the preacher of non-violence.
UDHAMPUR: NSS, NCC and Sports units of Govt. College for Women Udhampur organised a Fit India Plogging Run throughout the length and breadth of Udhampur town as a befitting tribute to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. The Run was seen off by Prof. Brinder Singh, senior most faculty member of the college and escorted by Prof. Swarna Devi and Prof. Sanjay Kumar; NSS programme officers Govt. College for Women Udhampur. The department of sports lead by Sudesh Kumar Bhagat also gave its significant contribution in the event by their active participation. Around fifty volunteers and cadets participated in the Run. Prof. Subhash Chander, Principal, Govt. College for Women Udhampur highlighted the relevance of these sort of runs for giving tribute to the Father of Nation. Nidhi’s Nagar Hospital and Research Centre, Udhampur organised free medical camp and environment awareness drive at village Ballian Udhampur on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 115th Birth anniversary of 2nd Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Nagpal Dy. CMO Udhampur, Chairman Ballian Block Bupinder Singh, Sarpanch Manmohan Raina, Naib Sarpanch Kuldeep kumar and other Panchayat members. More than 150 patients were examined and were given free medicines. Meanwhile, NSS volunteers of GDC Udhampur observed 150th Birth anniversary of father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion a massive cleanliness drive to remove the polythene and wrappers bits from the college campus was carried out under the command of NSS Programme officers Prof. Samosh Kumar and Dr. Rippy Bawa. Earlier Gandhi Jayanti commemoration activities began with the address by the Dr.N.K Resutra, Principal of the college who while addressing the volunteers said that soil pollution is major concern all over the world and single use plastic has been one of the major soil pollutants . Volunteers also carried out cleanliness drive at Devika Ghats under as ‘Shramdaan’ and removed loads of polythene and other plastic refuse and handed over to the men from Udhampur Muncipal Council for proper disposal. Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kathua under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu celebrated 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at GovtMiddle School, Ward No. 10, Rajbagh, Kathua in which more than 70 school children’s participated. The theme of this program was Swachhta Hi Sewa and Single Use Plastic. Dr. Anamika Jamwal SMS, Plant Protection KVK Kathua, Dr. Vijay Kumar Sharma SMS, Animal Sciences. The programme was attended by Sunita Gupta Headmistress along with 11 teachers of Government Middle School, Rajbagh Kathua. Deputy Commissioner also flagged off a ‘Lake Walk’ during which the participants conducted a sanitation drive all along the pathways around the lake. BHADARWAH: To celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) based at Bhadarwah organised a marathon titled “Run for Unity” on Wednesday. The half marathon was organized to inculcate the sense of responsibility, oneness, communal harmony and brotherhood among the participants especially youth, who participated with enthusiasm. The 5 KM and 3 KM marathon for male and female category respectively, was flagged-off from premises of Bhadarwah University Campus by GOC Delta Force, Maj Gen Ravi Morgan in presence of Commander 4 sector RR, N.J.Singh, Commanding Officer (CO) 4 RR, D.D.Pandey and Rector Bhadarwah Campus Prof Anil K Raina. On the occasion, beside Army officers including GOC Delta Force, commander 4 Sector CO 4 RR, students from Bhadarwah Campus, Colleges, government and private schools of District and large number of locals also participated in the half marathon. In female category, Sangeeta Devi of GDC Bhadarwah, Tabassum Bano of ISS institute and Versha Devi of Girls Higher Secondary School Bhadarwah stood first, 2nd and 3rd respectively. In Male category, Mohd Sadiq of GDC Kilhotran, Saqib of Green Model Academy and Manish Kumar of GDC Bhadarwah remained 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Later, a cleanliness drive under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan was also organised in the premises of Bhadarwah Campus. Khour: Municipal Committee, Khour today organized an impressive rally cum function to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The rally, flagged off by SDM Khour, Anil Kumar Thakur, go through the main market up to the new Bus stand Khour to spread the message about the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” and boycott single use plastic bags. It was culminated at new bus stand Khour where a small Nukkad Natak on “Swachta Hi Sewa” presented by Swarang Kala Sangam. Chairman MC Khour, Deputy Ram, CDPO Khour, Principals and Headmasters of different schools, Ward Members of MC Khour alongwith school children and other prominent citizens participated in the rally.
SAMBA: To mark the 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, District Administration, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Samba, Rohit Khajuria organized a rally under the aegis of Fit India programme in which large number of students, District Officers and people from different walks of life participated. During the rally, the participants raised slogans of clean India and exhorted the local population to take active part in this novel programme. The rally started from GHSS boys, Samba and concluded at Samba fort with distribution of certificates among the participants. Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee, Samba were also honored for their efforts in making district clean and health. Additional District Development Commissioner Samba, Arvind Kotwal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Gupta, District Programme Officer (ICDS) Jyoti Rani Slathia, besides other district officers were present On the occasion. 150th Gandhi Jyanti was also observed at Panchayat Dhamore block Vijaypur (Samba). The programme was organised by the local Sarpanch Shilpa Dubey at community hall in which they carried out a cleanness drive in the Panchayat. A Tiranga Yatra was organised by Distt. BJP Unit of Rajouri on Gandhi Jayanti which passed through Tehsil Office, Bus Stand Rajouri. hundreds of Rajourian participated in Yatra which include State Vice President Pramod Kapaie, Distt President Dinesh Sharma, Distt. Gen, Sec Atam Prakash Gupta Bharat Bushan Vaidh, Secy Kapil Saral, Secy Kewal G Koshal Gupta. Poonch: District Administration Poonch today organised Swachh Bharat Campaign to mark the 150th Birthday Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Bashir Ahmed Lone, Addl. SP Adil Hussain and other district officers participated in the campaign. The programme was coordinated by CEO Municipality Poonch, Garu Ram. The cleanliness programme was started at Sports Stadium Poonch where large gathering took pledge to keep their surrounding and town free from plastic.
REASI: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and culmination of first phase of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ mission in the district, Deputy Commissioner, Indu Kanwal Chib felicitated sanitation workers and called them ‘Swachhta Prahri’, watchers of cleanliness and exalted their role in keeping Reasi clean. She also presented a memento to Swachhta Prahri, Kuldeep at a programme held at the office of BDO Reasi. The Deputy Commissioner, earlier, led a rally from District Headquarter to Reasi bus stand and offered Shramdaan along with other district officers. The team, led by the DC, helped clean an entire dump of garbage and later walk through the town spreading awareness about cleanliness and use of separate dustbins for wet and dry waste. Erring shopkeepers and households were also warned against littering.

NOWSHERA: 150th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at Nowshera in the presence of ADC Sukhdev Singh Samyal. During the celebrations, people raised slogans on Clean India, Green India and plastic-free India. A big rally was taken out on this occasion by scores of children from various government and private schools.
