BLUNT BUTCHER / ANCHOR
“Fools could be found in every party. God knows what he had eaten up or consumed on that day”, National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah said this when asked by reporters in Ludhiana to comment on ‘Pakistan Zindabad’, slogan raised by his party MLA Mohammad Akbar Lone in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, a day after terrorists struck Sunjwan Army Station and killed our soldiers and a civilian, five of them Kashmiri Muslims. Ironically, three days after the gruesome incident, ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ slogans were raised in Kupwara village amid Shaheed Ashraf Amar Rahe chants while thousands of mourners carried his last remains for burial.
Akbar Lone better ponder over!
Lone’s ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan in full volume was received by former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly by successive two tweets, “Totally endorse my Party President’s views outlined in these two tweets. The party will say nothing more on this issue”, and “We need to focus on the unfortunate developments in #SunjwanArmyCamp & not get distracted by misplaced slogans”. These were yet two more shockers to Akbar Lone from National Conference high command that had already distanced itself from his ‘now notorious’ slogan in the floor of the House. And, in his presence, Mohammed Shaffi Uri also disowned his colleague’s slogan during his speech in the Assembly.
Famous for his choicest invectives and verbal duel with Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, former Minister, in one of the stormiest sittings of the Legislative Assembly during the tenure of Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister, Akbar Lone has perhaps attained distinction of being most viewed person on social media sites. During leisure, one is tempted to browse the video on YouTube to watch the former Speaker’s fiery argumentation. Therefore, ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans have not surprised or shocked most of the people.
However, the students of politics would be tempted to analyse psyche behind ‘not very normal’ behaviour of a legislator, who is known as a senior politician of so-called mainstream polity of Kashmir, a former minister and a former Speaker. Actually such types of politicians from the Valley are tempted to find themselves on both sides of the fence. They want to have best of both the worlds. Bashing India and Indian security forces is lesser evil for them notwithstanding the perks and privileges including several type of security cover. Akbar Lone must be under the high security protective cover with guards at his Sonawari, Srinagar and Jammu residences besides escort vehicle and plenty of Personal Security Officers. This must be pinching the pockets of Indian tax-payers who bear this burden along with the curse of being abused on regular basis and hurt by hurling choicest invective against their nation.
If the motivation behind the dare devil act of politicians like Akbar Lone is to endear themselves with separatists and Jihadis, they are horribly wrong.
Here is an unsolicited advice for Akbar Lone, without any charges. Now that he has raised Pakistan Zindabad slogan and taken pride in saying so outside the Legislative Complex while interacting with media, let him go a step forward. Let Honourable MLA Akbar Lone Sahib surrender his entire security and move around like a free man…like lakhs of Kashmiri professionals, intellectuals, traders and commoners. Let the world see how popular Akbar Lone is to move around the interiors of the Srinagar city and in his Sonawari Constituency. Let him align himself with Pakistan lackeys like Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar, Yasin Malik and others with the difference that unlike them he will be without Indian security.
Let Akbar Lone set an example for his ilk to emulate. He will not be taunted, like his boss Farooq Abdullah did by saying, “God knows what he had eaten up or consumed on that day”; he will only be watched. His personal security will be monitored while being in the midst of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ brigade. If he remains safe, such of the political Pundits will be proven wrong who believe that even if National Conference cadre will march in the streets and squares of Kashmir with Pakistani flags, the Jihadi brigade will never trust them. He will also add a new chapter in the Kashmir politics, notwithstanding the fact that National Conference cadre has been hit the most by Jihadis and Pak lackeys during the past nearly three decades.
Let Akbar Lone walk the talk and move around as a free bird, without the baggage of several tier security cover and keep chanting “Pakistan Zindabad”, as much as he likes.
