STATE TIMES NEWS LEH: United Leh lifted Trophy of the ‘3rd Tip Top T20 Cricket Tournament’ organised by Tip Top Sports & Culture Welfare Society Youth Wing Leh. As many as 30 cricket clubs representing different regions including one team each from Kashmir and Doda District participated in the tournament held at NDS ground, Leh on Wednesday. ‘No smoking’ and ‘Beat the Plastic’ were the motto of the tournament. Deputy Commissioner /CEO LAHDC, Leh, Avny Lavasa was the Chief Guest on the concluding day while LBA Vice President, PT Kunzang was the Guest of Honour. The final match was played between United Leh and Avengers. After winning the toss, United Leh opted to bat first and scored 225 runs for the loss of four wickets. Avengers could score only 167 runs in the allotted 20 overs and United Leh led by Captain Mehraj Giri won the tournament by 58 runs. Winners team was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 while runner up team Avengers got cash prize of Rs.30,000. Lateaf Wangoo was declared as Man of the Match. Ann Abdu (Challengers) was the highest run scorer with 380 runs in the tournament, Niyaz Ahmed (Green Warrior Club) was the highest wicket taker with 16 wickets in his tally and Stanzin Mingyur (Matho Sporting Club) was awarded as emerging player. Avny Lavasa appreciated the organising committee for conducting such tournament organised on the theme ‘No Smoking & Beat the Plastic’ that conveys a positive message. She added that sports activities could be a medium for promoting positive messages among masses as different people following different faith and believes play together. Earlier presenting the welcome speech Tip Top acting President Tashi Norbu informed that the aim behind organising this tournament was make Ladakh ‘Alcohol & Smoke’ free region. He said that the tournament got tremendous response from different cricket sporting clubs but due to limited sport infrastructure only 30 teams were accommodated in the tournament.
