For the first time in 32 years
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR: For the first time in the last 32 years of armed insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir, Government of Pakistan has reportedly under the pressure of UN-supported Financial Action Task Force (FATF) sealed off offices of all the 12 Kashmiri guerrilla outfits functioning on her soil under the banner of United Jehad Council (UJC). Even as the regional and the mainstream media across Pakistan has maintained silence, ‘Independent Urdu’ daily has reported that the offices of all the dozen-odd terror outfits have been closed down in PoK and mainland Pakistan as the FATF has mounted tremendous pressure on Islamabad and threatened to take stringent action of its own. This is believed to be a consequence of India’s sustained diplomatic pressure through UN, USA, China and other countries on Islamabad following the car bomb blast at Lethapora, Pulwama, that resulted in over 40 fatal casualties to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on 14 February this year. On 26 February, New Delhi claimed to have destroyed a major Jaish-e-Mohammad indoctrination and training centre at Balakot in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province of Pakistan by the Indian Air Force (IAF). It was because of that sustained diplomatic pressure that for the first time in the last 10 years, China withdrew its reservations and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) designated JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. The Pakistani daily reported that monetary support to all the 12 Kashmiri terror groups had also stopped. It reported that the offices were sealed off in presence of a magistrate. Even as remarkable scepticism in India and across the world still continues and many of the International Relations and strategy experts insist that the Pakistani move would end up as an eyewash to mislead the world, reports from Pakistan claim that the Imran Khan establishment was working under severe pressure and it would be extremely difficult for the Army and ISI to continue the military, political and financial support to the Kashmiri terrorists and separatists. Significantly, the US President Donald Trump had discreetly intervened and prevented a war between India and Pakistan after the IAF strafed the JeM facility inside the Pakistani territory. Several countries, including USA, UK, France, Russia and China, are believed to have assured New Delhi that they would get so-called Jehad Factory shuttered in Pakistan.
Not one of the separatist or the mainstream political parties in Kashmir, or any of the guerrilla groups, reacted to reports that Pakistan had closed down offices of all twelve organisations in PoK and other territories.
