UDHAMPUR: District administration Udhampur has planned to hold series of activities to mark International day of Disaster observed to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction. To chalk out the modalities, District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar today convened a meeting of District officers of all the departments here at Conference Hall.
The DDC said that the International day for Disaster Risk Reduction would be celebrated on October 13, 2017 by conducting disaster risk activities which include disaster preparedness, awareness programmes for community, schools and colleges and mock exercises.
He said that such campaign would seek to raise awareness about effective actions, policies and practices taken to reduce exposure to disaster risk at the community level to save property and human loss.
He emphasized upon the concerned officers that it is a considerable challenge which can be accomplished only through coordination, cooperation and collaboration among many stakeholders. For the purpose, he directed Deputy Controller Civil Defence to organize awareness programmes to generate maximum awareness among the general public to minimize the man made or natural disaster. The concerned officers were also directed to conduct large scale land slide/ accident mock drill exercise to reduce exposure to disasters to the rescue team during any rescue operation in the district. Besides, he impressed upon the Red Cross Secretary to organize first Aid training programme for the volunteers.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Arvind Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police, Faisal Qureshi, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Subhash Dogra, Chief Planning Officer, Ashok Khajuria, Programme Officer, ICDS, Rimpi Ohri, Chief Medical Officer, K. C Dogra, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Shamshar Singh, District Officers and HoDs of various departments.
