JAMMU: Shaheed Smark Committee on Sunday paid tributes to Major I.S Babbar, Kirti Chakra, on his 16th Shaheedi Divas here at Babbar Chowk in Sainik Colony.
On the occasion MLC Vikram Randhawa was the Chief Guest while Brig Suchet Singh, Brig M.S Saini, Brig R.L Sharma, Prof Lalit Mangotra, Convener Dogri Sanstha, Col Varinder Jamwal, R.K Bali SP JKP, Dr Rohit Jasrotia and Raj Jamwal were also present.
Major Babbar had attained martyrdom on June 17, 2003 at the age of 33 while fighting Bodo Insurgents in North East. He killed four terrorists and saved many of his troops before succumbing to his own bullet injuries out of terrorists due to profuse bleeding as he had refused to be evacuated to medical aid before all his injured troops.
The programme was organised by P.S Chaudhary, Convener of the Committee. The programme was also attended by members of Martyr Major Babbar’s family.
Members of Shree Ram Leela Club and Vijay Divas volunteers as well as residents of Sainik Colony were also present and paid tributes to Major Babbar.
One of the child, Dityam presented a song written by his grand-father Subhash Gupta. R.S Bandral presented vote of thanks.
