State these days is busy providing training to newly elected Sarpanchs for capacity building. The exercise holds vital significance as far as healthy and vibrant functioning of Panchayats is concerned. The responsibility of augmenting Panchayats through this endeavour has been taken by Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. On completion of this herculean task, the Sarpanchs across the State are supposed be familiar with Panchayati Raj Act, participative planning, budgeting and accounting practices, social audit and several other skills to carry out development initiative in their respective jurisdictions in a hassle free manner ensuring efficacy and transparency. This step to equip these PRI representatives with required skills deserves kudos and should be emulated in other spheres of administration as well to bring in vibrancy and a workable result-oriented system. The role of these newly installed representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions in imparting awareness among masses on various schemes conceived and implemented by the State and Centre is colossal which requires objectivity and focus. It is expected from the Sarpanchs and the Panchs to carry out sustainable development of communities by taking a cue and assistance from the resources available and by availing benefits of the schemes including Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, immunization, MGNREGA, Integrated Rural Development Programme (IRDP), etc. Rewiring the minds of Sarpanchs through this vigorous activity on good governance, leadership skills and sustainable development will help in enhancing performance at village level and will go a long way in satiating the much needed desires of people living away from the urban pockets and big cities. With this activity, it is anticipated that dream of empowering people through emboldened Panchayati Raj institutions shall be realized soon and the days are not far when our villages will start offering a convenient life to dwellers out there who until recently were struggling to get even the very basic entities necessary for survival. It is also expected that soon these trainees will prove that training can make wonders by giving the exemplary performance and outstanding results to carve out new era of development and prosperity in the rural hamlets of Jammu and Kashmir.
